Visits to fascinating country houses in an outstandingly beautiful area of Scotland's borders

The travel arrangements were excellent both to and from our destination and also during our movements around the area by coach. All our visits to country houses ran smoothly and well, and the catering offered at all was either excellent or very good. The Dryburgh Abbey Hotel was quiet and comfortable with spacious bedrooms, and the staff were anxious to please, but the catering there was quite disappointing. If you had offered a rating of 'Very Good' above, I would have chosen that category. Our holiday was somewhere between 'Good' and 'Excellent'

Rating for tour operator:

I have travelled with Ciceroni Travel many times before. Their holidays are always well organised, extremely interesting and in congenial company. The programme of visits is always very comprehensive and wide-ranging. Dr. Tom Duncan has such an in-depth knowledge of his cultural and fine arts subjects that these visits are very rewarding.

As expected from Ciceroni, first rate on every measure.

Excellent guide and the most interesting houses visited and glorious gardens. A special treat to have access to places not normally open to the public

Surprise after surprise in the Tweed Valley

A guided tour of a number of the great houses and their gardens in a largely agricultural and very beautiful part of Scotland.

Absolutely delightful

We spent effectively 5 days in the Tweed Valley of the Borders visiting wonderfully furnished aristocratic mansions and their extensive gardens in gloriously sunny and warm weather. The scenery is quite unspoiled and impressive. Tom Duncan provided his usual expert and amusing commentary on all visits.

We visited several outstanding houses and gardens in the Tweed Valley,Scottish Borders, some not open to the general public, with guided tours outlining the key architectural features of the houses, their history and contents. The weather was glorious, and all the arrangements excellent

We had a most interesting and stimulating holiday with Ciceroni Travel. Our guide was very professional and knowledgable. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time in Verona. As I have described above, our tour operator were absolutely excellent. They were considerate, knowledgable about the history and culture of Italy, and most of all, we had a fabulous time. A really good company to go with.

Verona, Verdi, and Valpolicella

I arrived knowing no one, and felt at the end that I had spent five glorious days with old friends. The sites selected were obviously chosen with care, with two excellent meals in private villas making us forget we were tourists. The tour was perfectly paced, with breaks coming just when we were ready for them. I am looking forward already to another tour with Ciceroni. l

Our guide James Hill is truly a fount of knowledge - it pours out of him in a sparkling and delightful way. He copes effortlessly with the unexpected, is invariably cheerful and upbeat, and has an instinct for turning strangers into friends. He is the ideal Cicerone.

We loved Verona and the villas of the Veneto. As always, the logistics and the informal lectures from Cicceroni made the history and architecture come alive.

After several very damp trips to Italy we were disappointed that two of our three operas in the Arena were rained off after the second act. Other than that, the churches, villas, gardens and wine were all splendid.
