A lovely walking holiday

In 2022 we walked the Lady Anne's Way through the picturesque Yorkshire Dales & in to the eastern edge of The Lake District. Beautiful scenery, and some great walking. Despite being over 100 miles long, it was fairly easy going - but the ability to read a map is essential as there were not that many dedicated Lady Anne's Way markers.

An enjoyable and interesting walk.

I walked a route called “Lady Anne’s Way” one of the lesser known long distance paths in England. I walked for 8 days through the Yorkshire dales and the Eden valley. Accommodation and baggage transfer were all perfectly arranged by Mickledore Travel.

Rating for tour operator:

They are an excellent company who organise walking holidays. They can arrange all aspects of your holiday from guide books and maps, booking accommodation and packed lunches and arranging baggage transfer between stops. They are very flexible in offering as much or as little of these services that you require. This is the fourth time I have used them and the have always been excellent.

Excellent communications from start to finish. Including pre-holiday information, maps, accommodation etc. Everything was as described in their literature. Very good response to a minor refund by one of the accommodations.

Rating for tour operator:

The attention to detail provided by Mickledore was excellent and included full OS mapping at 1:25000 scale. Couldn’t fault it. They also dealt extremely well with the complications resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to move my holiday from 2020 to 2021.

Another enjoyable and memorable walking holiday

Finally managed to walk Lady Anne's Way after 3 previous cancellations (due to prior injury and COVID restrictions). Was well worth it in the end. Interesting, varied route through beautiful countyside, much of which is little visited. All arrangements and accomodation to the usual very high standard. Weather was on the damp side but at least the waterfalls were at their best!

This was my 6th walking holiday through Mickledore and have never been dissappointed. Communications and information supplied in the advance pack are always to the highest standard. Accomodation is varied and always in the range good to excellent. My preferred walking tour operator if they offer the route I want.

Lady Anne's Way from Skipton to Penrith; 100 miles of (mostly) sunshine and footpaths through fields

It was early May 2019. The weather was good - it rained a little on the first day, a lot on the last, but it didn't matter either time. We chose to get to Skipton by train, which meant we were too late to visit the castle that day, and it didn't open until 10am, by which time we wanted to be well on the road. We have decided we need to go back and visit, plus some of the other castles and churches which were similarly inconvenient! Other comments: Maps and guidebooks – wonderful to have new, up to date maps. Sheila Gordon’s book with Mickledore updates (other holiday organisers left their customers to get the updates from the web site!) is very good. It’s great to have the italic descriptions as we go along, although confusing at times”! She does say that the Way is well waymarked now – there are places where it isn’t and it’s quite confusing when there are sometimes Lady Anne’s signs, sometimes Pennine Journey signs and sometimes the fingerpost just says “public footpath”; especially around and beyond Mallerstang. There are also places where the path is very indistinct, and later in the year the stinging nettles would be a real nuisance. It is fun to walk a route before it is very popular though. B & Bs generally very pleasant, not a lot of choice in most places, and always "nits" one can pick. My walking friend only drinks decaf tea and coffee which were not often available. We chose to walk 9 days to keep the distances sensible (we are not young), and it made a really good holiday of it. there were times when the walking was challenging, but mostly it was very pleasant.

Rating for tour operator:

Mickledore are people people. They are friendly, efficient, caring and thorough. They are not cheap, but the accomodation is of a high standard, luggage is transported efficiently and because they are my "local" travel agent, I can go in and talk to them.

Walking Lady Anne's Way

My fifth walk with Mickledore. This was an 8 day, 100 mile walk from Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales across country to Penrith, Cumbria. All arrangements were taken care of by Mickledore, from accommodation to guide book, maps and comprehensive details of all kinds of facilities along the route. Everything went smoothly. If it hadn't, I feel confident that Mickledore would have come to my rescue!
