A walking holiday from Ljubljana to Trieste with some transfers in between.

I like this tour operator and have used them before in Spain. They provide quick responses to queries, have a good app with maps etc and provide a local representative in each country which is very useful and very reassuring.

Two days in beautiful Ljubljana, five days walking across the Kast landscape of hills, woods and vineyards and then two days in fascinatingTrieste, staying in great and welcoming accommodation, and travelling there and back by train from the UK.

As first timers on this type of holiday we weren’t sure what to expect. What we got was clean air, amazing scenery and the generosity of a country we knew little about before we went. The walking was as described, the app provided us with a steady guide and the countryside enthralled us whether walking through woods, across open meadows or down vineyard slopes. All of the accommodation was immaculately clean and more than surpassed our needs. But the star of the show was the Slovenian people who both hosted us and who we met along the way. Always happy, always generous and clearly pleased to share their beautiful country with others. We thoroughly enjoyed the freshness of the food we were offered and the variety of local specialities available. The in country specialist was really helpful, as were all the owners and staff at the lodgings each day. Thankfully most of them had much better English than we had Slovenian! We extended our stay at the start and finish of the walk which enabled us to explore Ljubljana and Trieste in a little more depth which was thoroughly enjoyable too. Without doubt we look forward to roaming another country with On Foot in the future.

On Foot exceeded our expectations. All interactions were clear and knowledgable. Information was provided in detailed and timely way. And they were all just really nice people to deal with.

We did one small walk based in Kranjske Gora Slovenia and then a longer walk called Classic Slovenia. We have done walking holidays before but not with On Foot. My husband has a dodgy knee so that restricted his walking capacity but On Foot accommodated that really well by allowing him to travel with the luggage a couple of times. Great service and very nice taxi drivers along the way. Accommodation was generally of a high standard and we stayed in family run places that went above and beyond with service and food provided. A great cross section of places to visit to give a good overview of Slovenia. Also their walking app was pretty good with some minor quirks that will probably be ironed out pretty quickly. Can’t recommend them high enough.

In Slovenia Miha was our contact. Very well organised and prompt with his pick ups. When he couldn’t do it the people he used instead were also on time and very informative. Miha was also very responsive the one time we had an issue contacting a place we were staying at and the problem was sorted very easily.

My walk through the Karst countryside was a wonderful way to experience a small section of Slovenia. The App developed by On Foot Holidays both kept me on track and gave interesting snippets of the areas I passed through, and was ideal for a solo walker. Although I also carried the maps provided, I found I didn't need them. My route traversed woods, farmland and small villages via a combination of walking tracks, gravel roads and minor surfaced roads. Even the final stage between Oipcina and Trieste, where I expected to spend a large part of the day along busy roads, took me through woodland reserves, initially with expansive views of the Gulf of Trieste. Highlights were the wildflower display over Nanos while on route to Vipava, and my visit to the spectacular Skocjan Caves. My accommodation was of a high standard, and the generous and flavorsome meals provided by my hosts were culinary delights. It was a pleasure to not have to carry a backpack, and my luggage was always delivered to my evening accommodation promptly by my cheerful and courteous driver.

I found On Foot Holidays to be very professional, highly organised, and very easy to communicate with. The background detail was informative, and the route information was spot on. Additional information such as train and bus details and restaurant recommendations were very welcome.

The holiday was split into 3 parts. A few days in Ljubljana then a 6 day walk to Trieste and then a few days in Trieste. This was about 100km. We stayed the night in really good hotels on route and our bags were transported to the next hotel. The walks were through beautiful countryside on good tracks. My wife and I are in our late 60s and fairly fit (well my wife is). The walks were fairly hard - but not too hard to stop our enjoyment. A really good holiday

We were originally booked to go on another route earlier in the year - but we had to cancel at fairly short notice because of ill health. On Foot Holidays were extremely understanding and helpful. They cancelled the original holiday. Early in September we booked this holiday at short notice. On Foot Holidays central staff and the local guides / representatives were very helpful and enabled us to modify our plans on route and fit in a couple of wine tastings and a trip to Lipizzaner to see the horses. I can't recomend them enough

We planned to walk 5 days during the first week of September. However, we had a couple of rainy days and were offered some excellent options….one day we visited .the Caves of Skocjan which were amazing. All of the accommodations were nice, very clean and comfortable. Hosts were helpful and very pleasant. The supper in Kodreti was fabulous.

On Foot offers shortening options each day which we appreciate.

We were limited on time and the trip was perfect because we could choose the length of days. The walking route was exactly as described and accommodation better than expected. We were very well informed and supported from start of the booking process to the after feedback. I would choose to use them again and loved Slovenia too.

Our walking holiday in Slovenia was beyond our expectations. The country landscape is stunning, the Slovenian people are kind and welcoming, the guesthouses superb and the food was scrumptious (3 and 5 course dinners). We booked this trip after a fabulous holiday with On Foot in May this year where we walked Naxos and Amorgas in the Cyclades. That trip was so fantastic that we came home and scheduled Slovenia for the fall. Our advice is: Do not hesitate - book your next walking holiday with On Foot.
