La Dolce Vita on the Amalfi Coast

We enjoyed a fabulous 7-day self-guided walking tour of the Amalfi Coast in Italy. Following maps and route notes - like a treasure hunt - our tour took us on ancient paths, up and down hidden stairways, on back roads, and through lemon and olive groves to quiet villages and bustling towns, with long stretches of drop-dead gorgeous coastal views along the way. We loved every step of our journey.

The crew at On Foot Holidays were fantastic to work with. From our first inquiry, though the planning and booking process, and the trip itself, they were incredibly responsive. They answered our questions promptly and thoroughly; booked our charming accommodations; arranged for transport of our luggage between hotels; and provided detailed trip notes, maps, and bus and ferry schedules geared specifically to our itinerary. We recommend them whole-heartedly.

Great walking and relaxing hotels

We had 1 week of well-described daily walks from stylish and comfortable hotels in and away from a popular holiday destination on Amalfi coast. The walks were well described and at an appropriate level with some stunning views and interesting towns and villages along the way. Our hotels were all comfortable and the rooms were mostly quiet and some with good views. Breakfasts were with only 1 exception plentiful and enjoyable

The Gods were with us in Amalfi

The scenery was as spectacular as I had imagined and the colour of the seas was the deep turquoise that we read about and see in the travel brochures and wonder if it could be true. It is! The views, combined with steeply rising and challenging walks up on to cliff paths and down to tucked away villages created an adventure for us every day. We discovered a shepherd with his 100 sheep and goats; an isolated market gardener on the top of the walk from Positano and a man and his mules delivering potatoes on the steep steps of Praiano. The isolated areas were filled with wild flowers and we enjoyed the challenge of identifying them and of noting the hawks and falcons that combed the cliff areas above the coastal regions. The walking was of sufficient challenge but very do-able and we had a sense of achievement at the end of every completed leg of our journey.Throughout we were well supported by excellent route guides and our hotels provided us with comfortable and very agreeable accommodation each night.

Our Tour operator was attentive and the walking holiday was very well planned and supported.

Beautiful Amalfi

I hiked alone along the Amalfi coast through stunning scenery and charming, little towns. The hikes were roughly 4-5 hours per day, and sometimes quite challenging. It was a perfect active holiday, and the resting days I had inbetween came to good use.

Walking tour of the Amalfi Coast

I had read about this series of walks on a stunning coastline, and resolved to walk the "Pathway of the Gods" before getting too old! My husband wanted the scenery but not the walking, so On Foot sorted out accommodation which allowed us each to spend the day doing different things, and meet up in the evenings. We were delighted with the hotels chosen, and very happy with the service at Amalfi, Positano and Sorrento. I also spent a night at an Agritourismo at St. Agata, which was a wonderful experience of staying at a working country farm, and enjoying meals from produce grown and cooked on site.

Rating for tour operator:

There were a few, but mainly Mary Pocock and Emma at On Foot, who coped with the demands of one walker and one non-walker, and who found ways for me to do the walking when some of the usual hotels were booked out (national holiday & long weekend). She gave me several options for starting and finishing at different points so I could still enjoy the same walks, and forwarded bus and ferry timetables so I could make a choice. This is also handy if the weather turns bad, and one suddenly has to change plans and find a bus.

We hiked beautiful coastline, forest and ridge tops, passing lovely villages and trattorias & the occasional medieval ruin. After a day of hiking, we'd settle into out hotel, clean up and make the important decision of where to eat! I managed to lose 5 lbs, even with all the pasta and wine! And nothing has ever tasted so good after a day of hiking as lemon gelato eaten while gazing at the Mediterranean.

On Foot was professional and thorough. They planned for every detail, gave us excellent resource material and kept in touch through all the planning stages. Emails were answered promptly & I felt that they were glad to tailor our vacation to our needs, changing details for me with no difficulty and always a pleasant manner.

Unique and unforgettable

We booked a walking tour of Amalfi coast Italy with On Foot holidays. The design was excellent. The routes had majestic views but also vary from day to day so there are different flavors to appreciate. The many options from easy to hard make it a breeze to adjust to any unpredictable events-- be it a foot injury or bad weather-- and still have a fantastic time. The many options from easy to hard make it a breeze to adjust to any unpredictable events-- be it a foot injury or bad weather-- and still have a fantastic time. After only three or four days of the tour, it felt like we had been on vacation for a week already because we had experienced and seen so much more than we normally do on vacations.
