This was our 5th consecutive Peter Sommer trip and, as usual, it lived up to all expectations. Our guides, Maria and Michael, were a great double act. They entertained and informed us and looked after us so well and brought the history of Crete to life. The trip was very well organised and we saw so much of the island. We learned something of the landscape, culture and food as well as the history, from the earliest human inhabitation up to the second world war. The food and wine were excellent and we mustn't neglect to mention our driver Nikos, who expertly drove us on some challenging roads. We are now trying to decide where to go for our 6th Peter Sommer trip.

Peter Sommer Travels are superb. The organisation is faultless and the guides are always so knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They specialise in archaeological tours but offer a great deal more.

Archeological tour of Crete which visited wonderful sites but also showcased the varied countryside, the great cuisine. We were lucky to be in wildflower paradise which added an extra unexpected dimension. Although an archeological tour there were plenty of other facets to the tour including wineries, folk museums, war cemetaries etc

Peter Sommer Tours has never disappointed us as we love traveling to new places with small groups and well spoken leaders. The comprehensive itinerary included Bronze Age and Roman ruins, cemeteries and caves, tiny churches with frescoes, Venetian towns, and splendid museums. Every day, we enjoyed fresh Cretan dishes and Cretan wines. The experience was enjoyable and educational due to the exceptionally knowledgeable archaeologists/guides and attention to every detail.

My husband and I were more than satisfied with this holiday tour.....from the time we were greeted at the airport by our transfer driver to the time we got on the plane to go home. We were hoping for a holiday that could provide us with an appreciation of Crete and its archaeological treasures. Our hopes were fulfilled by the Peter Sommer tour. To a great extent this was due to the superb leaders of the tour, Heinrich Hall and Maria Girtzi. Heinrich is a natural entertainer and, as well, has an outstanding background in the archaeology of the Aegean region and conveyed that knowledge to us in a humorous and intelligent, never condescending, manner. Maria is also an accomplished archaeologist and, as well, did an outstanding job in planning our meals in order to give us a real appreciation for Cretan fare. We have taken many guided tours with commercial tour companies but the Peter Sommer tour was, without question, the best.

The Peter Sommer tour of Crete, lead by guides Heinrich Hall and Maria Girtzi, was incredibly well planned and executed. The guides were outstanding, the food/meals were remarkable and the accommodations were comfortable and often unique. Clearly, the tour operator (Peter Sommer) and staff put an unusual amount of effort into the planning and execution of the tour and the expertise of the people involved was reflected in every moment of the tour. We would not hesitate to take another Peter Sommer tour and we have recommended Peter Sommer Travels to our friends.
