PETER SOMMER TRAVEL

This was a two week exploration of historical sites and museums around the Island of Crete. Minoan, Mycenean, Classic Greek, Roman, Byzantine and modern sites were included. Two professionals led the trip Maria, a native Greek who managed the trip and is a professional archaeologist and Peter, another archaeologist who has been working in Crete for several decades. Maria also organized the meals to celebrate local foods in local restaurants providing an excellent array of dishes. The knowledge of the team was extensive, and their enthusiasm for the topics was clear.

Peter Sommer has tours focusing on history and archaeology together with a focus on local cuisine. The trips are small groups of interested individuals.

The tour was impeccably organized, with knowledgeable and passionate guides who brought the island's rich history to life. We delved into numerous Minoan sites, explored local museums, and spent a few nights in a charming mountain village. The cuisine was a highlight—delicious and abundant. Our tour bus and driver were exceptional, ensuring smooth and enjoyable travel throughout the island. Reflecting on the journey, we realize that organizing such an enriching experience independently would have been impossible. A great holiday full of fascinating stories and history about the island provided by two excellent and knowledgeable guides. It was well organized and well executed with the guides able and willing to smooth out any glitches or take advantage of any unexpected opportunities that arose. And just when we had had enough of history or sightseeing, great food and drink would appear!
