My favourite memories of Croatia, collected over thirty-five years, always involve the sea. Catching the boat from Cavtat to Dubrovnik, watching the 1000-year-old walls shimmer in the haze, leaving behind the hectic port of Split and arriving on the lavender-scented island of Hvar, eating seafood fresh off the boat on Rovinj's picturesque harbour. I love the pace and simplicity of life in Croatia, and the sense of a country that has overcome difficult times to find itself at peace.
