Further south is the Kalahari Desert, the eerie white pans and vast open spaces of rarely-visited Makgadikgadi National Park and Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
During my first safari in Moremi Game Reserve, I spotted lions, glided on a mokoro past elephants and tiny reed frogs, and was mesmerised by sunsets that set the skies ablaze. Botswana may be expensive, but the memories are priceless.
