Northumberland – Dark Skies Traveller Reviews

We had a wonderful time on our trip to Northumberland in September, arranged for us by McKinlay Kidd. The accommodation was very suitable, in Wark and Belford, and the trips were really well chosen and thoroughly enjoyable. We saw the night sky through a large telescope with an enthusiastic astronomer at Battlesteads; we walked Hadrian's Wall for the day with a fantastic Celtic guide; and we loved our trip around the Farne Islands where we were privileged to see many grey seals and a variety of seabirds up close.

The trip was extremely well put together for Northumberland novices.

Our first time in Northumberland and what a lot to see and do and what scenery. A trip to the Farne Islands and Hadrians wall are a most but it also has some of the best castles in England to see. Holy Island is a great place to experience and the trip over the causeway is interesting.

We have been on tours organised by McKinlay Kidd for the past five years and all have been exceptional. We would rate them as the best tour operator we have used.

We went on the "Northumberland Dark Skies and Nature" holiday which we really enjoyed. The hotels were very good; small and friendly. We had three nights inland and then five nights (two of which were extra to the standard tour) nearer the Northumberland coast.

This was the second time we've booked a holiday through McKinlay Kidd and would recommend them. The hotels are good and some trips/events are included, but with plenty of free time to explore the area on our own.

We went to Northumberland. First few days taking in the history. Our guide,Kevin, dressed in his celtic warrior outfit gave us a very informative tour of Hadrians wall and a museum. He took into consideration 2 older guests which could nt walk too far, and was fun and courteous throughout. Next few days were spent on the coast. we had a fantastic time on a boat trip round the Farne Islands, again the crew were very knowledgeable and still had great enthusiasm in sharing it. We landed on the island and had a great time ducking the terns that were dive bombing us. Great close up view of puffins,eiders etc.

This is the 5th or 6th time we have used them. Always helpful and accommodating. The holidays always live up to their advertisements. They are well organised and efficient in all correspondence, able to adapt the holiday to suit our needs. Accommodation and excursions are always of the highest standard.

Organized by McKinley Kidd we had a great 6 nights in varied Northumberland. Starting in the wilds near the wall we had great accommodation in a quiet village coupled with a wonderful full day tour with Wild Dogs Outdoors visiting the wall and two great museums. Knowledgable and enthusiastic hosts made for a great day. The second part of the holiday was along the coast. Very different landscape and also enjoyable. Holiday was well organized and communication from Robert was excellent. Will look to travel with them again this time to Scotland
