From the moment we met our guides and crew we were assured we were going to have a wonderful time. Two weeks living and travelling with other like minded companions is refreshing and invigorating. We loved the 'morning talks' from our friendly, personable and knowledgeable guide, Dr Richard Bayliss, and his evening meal deconstruction of what we saw and experienced that day. At breakfast, the excitement of the group's anticipation of the day's itinerary was palpable. The visits to ancient sites were well orchestrated from transport with friendly locals, notes and narrative, access and health and safety (delightful logistics manager Ugur an absolute gem). The crew and food on both our gulet trips were 100% excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and always with a smile. As a result, we have come to love Turkey and the Turkish people. Our first Peter Sommer tour (Cyclades) was supposed to be our "once in a lifetime" trip. We are now booked for a third!

I had for many years fancied a gullet cruise along the southern Turkish coast, but finally this one centered on an exploration of on-shore archaeological sites appeared to satisfy every possible requirement. A good cabin and facilities, varied and interesting meals, enjoyable company, a knowledgeable and personable leader, and a friendly and professional crew left nothing to be desired. The balance between opportunities to relax and swim in remote and attractive coves, visit many and varied ruins of ancient settlements, wander through local villages and markets, and meet a fascinating set of fellow travelers has left me wishing only that I had come across this travel company many years ago.

The trip was in a gulet, which left from Göcek in Turkey, cruised the Carian and Lycian shores to Antalya and then back to Bodrum. Along the way, we stopped at and explored the ruins of the cities of ancient Greece and Rome in the company of a professor of ancient history and a highly competent and educated Turkish guide. It was a relaxing yet highly interesting and informative experience.

A highly organised and well planned cruise by a real archeological expert who clearly loves his subject along the Turkish Coast that took in extraordinary archeological sites liberally interspersed with downtime for swimming and good food. From the outstandingly clean, well run gulet with a very welcoming and friendly captain and crew and fed by an outstanding Turkish chef to our mentor and guide Peter Sommer who gave unstintingly of his unique knowledge and scholarship at all the very well chosen and planned walks of exploration and discovery. This is the third trip I have experienced with Peter Sommer Travels and all have been outstanding but this one surpasses them not least because of how very well it was planned and tuned to cater for all of us. From our well chosen nightly mooring places to the arrangements ashore and the people we met everything worked without a hitch and was part of the unique and fabulous experience.

2-week voyage by gulet along the Lycian shore of Turkey. The gulet was well appointed, comfortable and spacious with excellent accommodation. The food prepared on board was superb with a wide range of delicious Turkish dishes. The boat stopped each day at some significant archeological site, and our expert guide provided an in-depth educational tour of the site. Each site was different and interesting. We also anchored in small coves and inlets to allow for swimming in the warm Mediterranean, and for quiet nights. We also visited some lovely towns along the coast. Overall, a marvelous experience.

We come back over and over again to Peter Sommer Travels' unique formula for expert-led expeditions. The combination of relaxed accommodation, recreational opportunities, and delicious food with intensive exploration of historically important areas is unmatched by any other tour company. Living on a gulet sailing along the Turkish coast is a wonderful experience. Going onshore to visit an ancient city or museum is exhilarating and educational. We'll be back for more!

Beautiful Turkish gulet with very friendly crew, and the joy of having Peter Sommer himself, with his wealth of experience, as our guide, together with a Turkish guide. Marvellous swimming in deserted bays, and extensive exploration of ancient cities, and other stunning archaeological sites - wonders to behold! A lovely group, much laughter during excellent meals and flowing local wine - perfection!

A small, well run company with excellent hands on support, especially during the huge problems of lockdown. They enabled me to start travelling again with confidence and optimism after two difficult years.
