Tailor-made Namibia Safari

Tailor-made Namibia Safari Overview

Namibia is visually stunning, and you can drive yourself as easily as you can be flown. There is almost limitless flexibility in what we can organise for you in Namibia. Here you'll find one of our most popular trip ideas. However, all of our holidays are tailor-made, for more information please refer to our website.

Caracal Self-drive Safari

This popular self-drive safari combines the best of southern and northern Namibia: including the stunning sights of the Namib Desert and Damaraland followed by four nights game viewing in Etosha National Park. In between, you drive through some of the most spectacular scenery that Namibia has to offer, resulting in a memorable and varied trip.

Day 1

1 night at Galton House (bed & breakfast) | Windhoek, Namibia

Pick up your rental car when you arrive at Windhoek Airport and set off on the easy 45-minute drive to reach Namibia's capital of Windhoek. Spend the afternoon mooching around this clean and relaxed African city; maybe shop at the craft stalls or sit in one of the pavement cafes. Then relax for your first night at Galton House.

Days 2-3

2 nights at Bullsport Guest Farm (half board) | Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia

After a refreshing nights rest you depart on your self-drive adventure, heading south-west to the remarkable Naukluft Mountains. The rugged slopes harbour surprisingly lush valleys where natural springs feed into streams and rock pools, attracting a diverse range of flora and fauna. Based here, you can explore the various hiking trails, enjoy great birdwatching and simply soak up the vistas from the homestead at Bullsport Guest Farm.

Days 4-5

2 nights at Kulala Desert Lodge (half board) | Namib-Naukluft National Park, Namibia

A relatively short drive takes you to the edge of the Namib Desert plains, from where you can venture into the spectacular landscapes of Namib-Naukluft Park. Drive out to catch the sunrise across the desert, climb one of the world's highest sand dunes at Sossusvlei and explore the depths of Sesriem Canyon. You'll fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the desert, under the stars if you wish, at the lovely Kulala Desert Lodge.

Days 6-7

2 nights at Cornerstone Guesthouse (bed & breakfast) | Swakopmund & Walvis Bay, Namibia

Travel across the northern expanse of the Namib-Naukluft Park, through striking and varied landscapes, until you reach the charming seaside town of Swakopmund. Spend your time here indulging in some of the optional activities on offer such as kayaking, sand-boarding or skydiving. The shops, restaurants and historic buildings are also great to amble around and are close to Cornerstone Guest House.

Days 8-9

2 nights at Doro Nawas (half board) | Damaraland, Namibia

Head up the coast and then inland to the rolling mountains of Damaraland where the surrounding attractions are easily explored in your rental car. You'll find a natural gallery of rock engravings sheltered within the Twyfelfontein valley, strange geological formations at the Organ Pipes and Burnt Mountain, and an interesting Damara cultural village. During the dry winter months the ephemeral river valley here attracts desert-adapted elephant – your best chance to see these elusive creatures is by joining an optional guided nature drive offered during your stay at Doro Nawas.

Days 10-11

2 nights at Okaukuejo Camp (bed & breakfast) | Etosha National Park, Namibia

Continue north-east into the heart of Etosha National Park: Namibia's premier game reserve. The scenery is largely open savannah and the game here is relaxed, making it a great place for wildlife photography. You are free to spend the days exploring the various sand roads in your hire car and sitting quietly by the many waterholes, watching game come in to drink. Enjoy further game viewing after dark at the excellent floodlit waterhole beside Okaukuejo Camp.

Days 12-13

2 nights at Mushara Bush Camp (half board) | Etosha National Park, Namibia

Spend the full day discovering more of Etosha National Park, taking in the empty vastness of Etosha Pan and driving through varied habitats, as you cross to the eastern side of the park. From your base on the boundary of Eastern Etosha you can enter and explore this side of the park, exiting by sunset each day to return to your inviting accommodation at Mushara Bush Camp.

Day 14

1 night at Erongo Wilderness Lodge (half board) | Central Highlands, Namibia

Your destination today is the majestic Erongo Mountains within Namibia's Central Highlands. This is a fantastic place for your final night on safari; with dramatic views, a relaxing atmosphere and a variety of guided or self-guided walking trails that you can enjoy if you wish to stretch your legs before taking your flight tomorrow. The only downside will be leaving the pristine beauty of Erongo Wilderness Lodge. Guided walks are included in your stay here.

Day 15

A hearty breakfast will set you in good stead for the return drive to Windhoek Airport this morning. If time allows, you may like to stop at Okahandja or Windhoek craft market en-route, ensuring you arrive in Windhoek to drop off your hire car ready for your onward arrangements from Windhoek.
