Hike to Malawi’s highest point (3002m), safari in Liwonde National Park and relax at Lake Malawi
The marrying of mountain walking and an African wildlife safari is the perfect combination for a holiday in the ‘warm heart of Africa’ – Malawi. Our holiday starts in Blantyre where we stay on a nearby private reserve where we can enjoy bush walks to see giraffe, zebra and antelope. A brilliant beginning! The Mulanje Massif is our next destination for a 5 day trek to the summit, Sapitwa at 3002m. Our ascent follows local trails and past spectacular waterfalls that lead onto the famous granite boulders of Mulanje. Often shrouded in a picturesque mist, Mulanje is aptly named the ‘Island of Sky’. Moving northwards Liwonde National Park is where we can truly experience some of Malawi’s wildlife with game drives, walks and river safaris to see the beautiful elephant, hippo, various antelope and recently introduced cheetah and lion. And in Nov 19, in one of the world’s largest international wild animal translocations, 17 black rhino were successfully released into the park. After a glorious 3 nights we continue north to the sandy shores and crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi where we spend 2 nights soaking in the relaxed atmosphere. This 2-week holiday, in this friendly nation, will capture your imagination by walking in the less frequented Mulanje Massif, and the conservation success story of Liwonde.
