This tour, running 2 - 13 Sep 2026, introduces the country which gave birth to Janáček, Smetana, Dvořák, Martinů - and Mahler. We visit birthplaces and walk in the countryside that inspired these great musicians. We end in Brno, the Republic’s second city, where our centrally based hotel is ideal for an exploration of this capital of Moravia.
We begin in Cordoba, visiting 8th century Mezquita and the Cathedral within it. We walk in the Sierra de Cazorla and the Alpujarras to see castles, ‘white villages’, olive groves and vineyards which lie along the historic route to our ultimate goal, Granada and the magnificent Alhambra.
In the Cévennes, the ‘transhumance’, the seasonal migration of sheep up to the cool mountain pastures, is still practiced on foot. Following ancient drovers’ paths, we will discover how closely the traditions of pastoralism are interwoven with the history of the landscape. We will discover the wealth of wildflowers descend the Tarn Gorge by boat.
Explore the heart-shaped peninsula of Istria on foot and enjoy fresh farm cuisine on a week-long trip.
