The Perfect Vacation in coastal Colombia

Journey Latin America designed a custom itinerary blending history, nature, culture and music. Their expertise enabled two senior citizens with limited Spanish to travel seamlessly across northern Colombia. We saw historic Cartagena, Mompos, Santa Marta and Valledupar. We hiked in Tayrona National Park along scenic forest trails to distant beaches, seeing monkeys, lizards, birds and leaf-cutter ants. We viewed many bird species on a boat excursion on the Magdalena River. We attended the Vallenato music festival in Valledupar, purchasing unique indigenous handmade products and enjoying local food specialties. In each city, our guides shared their knowledge of colonial history and important sites. Our drivers enabled us to travel from city to city with confidence and comfort. Highest praises!

Rating for tour operator:

Journey Latin America devoted extra effort to building a custom tour devoted to our particular interests. Each hotel and excursion was outstanding.

High prices. Mediocre standards of service

I had a very memorable holiday in the Guiana's with Journey Latin America. The sights were impressive and I'm glad I visited those countries. The tour leader was very good.

Rating for tour operator:

Unfortunately the price of the tour - the highest I've ever paid for any group tour - was not reflected in the quality of services delivered, in particular hotels and transport used on multiple occasions. The planned logistics and timings were also poor at times leading to a substandard experience.

Journey Latin America / Journeyscape responded to this review on 28 Apr 2026:

We’re sorry that parts of this tour did not meet expectations, particularly around accommodation, transport, and logistics. This was an off‑the‑beaten‑track itinerary where travel can be challenging, but it is designed to be adventurous and authentic. We investigated the concerns raised, addressed issues with our suppliers, and provided refunds, which were accepted. We’re pleased the tour was overall enjoyed and proved memorable, and we appreciate the feedback which helps us improve.

Touring Northern Argentina

A superb two and a half weeks trip to Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls, Salta, Purmamarca and Mendoza. A real contrast between the bustling city and the unspoilt landscapes of the north west, and then a few days enjoying Argentinian wine surrounded by the vineyards of Mendoza

Journey Latin America (JLA) pulled together an excellent itinerary based on our initial suggestions and was able to advise exactly what would be the best route and how long to spend in each location. The in country arrangements were excellent and the local guides and drivers were always on time, always helpful and took all the stress away from us. The true value of dealing with a professional operator was perfectly demonstrated when during our trip a general strike was called in Argentina which impacted our travel arrangements. JLA took care of everything and rebooked flights, accommodation and transfers so there were no issues for us to deal with. We would not hesitate to rebook with JLA again.

Costa Rica.... what an amazing experience....

The trip - I saw lush rainforests with towering trees and hummingbirds buzzing. Ziplining through mystical cloud forests. Close encounters with many wildlife. Visited the most active volcano and the highest volcano in Costa Rica. Strolled along wild beaches. Saw brightly coloured poison dart frogs, poisonous yellow eyelash vipers, howler monkeys, toucans, macaws and sloths in the treetops, caimans and crocodiles in the rivers, lagoons and mangroves, and a wide array of flora and fauna. The ever changing microclimates, took a while to get used to! Not to forget crossing the continental divide. And we got to see the rare male and female quetzal birds in their natural habitat! Met some lovely people along the way.. Perfect trip all round.... Pura Vida

Amazing South America Experience

We flew to Santiago, and the following day travelled on to Explora San Pedro de Atacama. Following our stay here, we moved on to Tierra Hotel Chiloe, then Explora Parque National Patagonia, before travelling on to Explora Torres del Paine. After this we travelled onto Explora El Chalten , before spending two days in Buenos Aires prior to flying home.

Sophie Barber at Journey Latin America designed and planned this trip for us. We have dealt with Sophie for many years, and she has arranged several trips for my wife and I. Sophie is by far and away the most professional and knowledgeable travel expert we have dealt with. Her knowledge of Latin America is superb, and whenever you ask her anything about the Continent, she provides the answer immediately. We would not use any other Company for trips to Latin America.

The terrain is quite challenging and it may be helpful to outline more clearly what level of fitness is required. I have Parkinson’s disease and whilst I did pretty much everything, I did need quite a lot of help.
