Rhinos, Temples and Volcanoes combines Indonesia's special wildlife opportunities with its rich cultural heritage. Whilst most explore the orangutans of Borneo, Sumatra offers sightings of the incredibly rare (and sweet!) Sumatran Rhino - with only 100 left in the world this is definitely a unique experience and a once in a lifetime holiday.
This is an Indonesian holiday with a difference. Fewer tourists travel to Sumatra and by visiting this island you will be exploring some of the country's hidden gems - particularly its wildlife. Way Kambas National Park will certainly be the main highlight for the first part of your holiday. The critically endangered Sumatran Rhino has a special breeding programme in the park and if you are lucky you'll be able to see them being fed. Staying at a sustainable eco lodge, you can join in with the bird club's spotlight work at night - a magical experience where you can see rather incredible nocturnal animals species including the slow loris, nightjars and frogmouth birds. Moving onwards to Java, you will experience the cultural highlights of Indonesia. Arrive in time for sunrise at Borobudur and absorb the mystical atmosphere. Photography enthusiasts will love the light and go home with some absolutely stunning shots. Later you will travel east by train, witness life in rural Indonesia as villages are scattered between mountains and lush green paddy fields. Stop off at Bromo where you can climb to the peak and gain stunning views of the crater lake and the surrounding mountains. Finish your trip in Candi Dasa and reflect on your journey on some of Bali's best beaches.
