All the Glories of Rome in the Spring

A wonderfully paced tour of Ancient Rome, our hotel was next to the Pantheon, then an exploration of the flowering of culture during 15 to 17 centuries. Culminating in a private visit to the Vatican Museum & the Sistine Chapel.

Illumination of Historic Rome

This was our first ever visit to Rome . It was Perfect in every way . Hotel , itinerary , most expert guides with deep knowledge & enthusiasm for their subject together with sense of fun & good humour . 6 days of well orchestrated schedule with good group meals interspersed with enough time for private meanderings in this fascinating city .

Very Enjoyable Holiday

An enjoyable and very well organised trip. The quality of the excursions and the guides were excellent and so was the food in all the restaurants. The hotel was well appointed but the food of variable quality - to be fair I realise it was not the first choice for organisers as the other was shut for re-furbishment.

Cultural & Arts Holiday

Intensive with well chosen optional periods of free time. Well organised so that the days had themes to enable retention of vast amount of illuminating new knowledge about visits and artefacts. Well chosen restaurants for tour meals. The tour gudes were amusing and other members of the group were very approachable so it was fun.

Both the guides were very knoeledgeable and fun: I can't remember being bored. We were also well looked after when there were problems eg. when our flight was cancelled etc. Well chosen hotel with friendly service.

A wonderful week

With Ciceroni experts, Tom Duncan and James Hill, following in the steps of all those in the past who have done the Grand Tour. Stimulating but exhasuting both mentally and physically! A good week which ideally should be followed up by a further visit.

The best possible way to discover Rome

We were looked after in every possible way - including a manic (for the organisers, not us!) and successful rush to find alternative flights when bad weather meant our intended flight was cancelled. We were looked after in every possible way - including a manic (for the organisers, not us!) and successful rush to find alternative flights when bad weather meant our intended flight was cancelled. Having visited Rome under my own steam before, I cannot begin to list the ways in which this type of travel takes away any stress. It also stretches the sagging brain muscles, only to the extent that one allows it, with enormously knowledgeable and erudite guides. Even the headsets were a boon, in that they cut out some of the background noise, yet meant guides didn't have to shout. Utterly blissful.

Rating for tour operator:

Nothing was too much trouble for our guides. They have a way of opening doors that others might not even notice. A good Yin/Yang combination of local knowledge, deep knowledge and charm worked its wonders on priests and local officialdom alike.

A palimpsest of Rome.

Many wonderful sights, all put into a historical and aesthetic context that was illuminating. Small friendly group.

Amazing cultural holiday, full of insights and interest

6 nights in Rome. First visit. Having heard a great deal from friends and family as to what a special city it is, there was a lot for Ciceroni to live up to. How well they succeeded! With an excellent and caring organisation, and having travelled with them 3 times before, we were fully confident this would be no different. Ciceroni did not disappoint. The meeting in Rome Airport, the travel arrangements, hotel and eating arrangements - all were excellent and carefully tailored to meet our needs. Tom and James proved to be hugely knowledgeable, taking us to unusual and special (seldom visited)places and all put over in an accessable and fun manner. Suffice to say we were very happy indeed.

Rating for tour operator:

Ciceroni is a super company we would very happily recommend to others who enjoy a culturally based holiday. Privately owned, run with care and consideration, you feel more like a guest than a customer! Set up by Tom Duncan, who also does guiding on many of the tours, supported by other very knowledgeable specialists in their particular subjects. What more can one say? We are Ciceroni groupies!

An adventure into cultural Rome

In many ways challenging both physically and mentally but also entertaining and educational. The programme was well designed, and fellow travellers excellent company. I have definitely fallen for the charm of Rome.

They provide an excellent and extremely varied choice of tours. All very well conducted and very well researched. The level of expertise is exceptional, and balanced with lighter moments, comfort and good company.
