A Return to a Favorite Greek Island and Hotel

A.few years ago, we enjoyed an On Foot Holidays visit to Naxos and Amorgos. This year, we planned a trip to another of their Greek island walks, on Andros. Since Naxos was close by, we decided to return as this was one of our favorites of the 18 walks we have done with On Foot. The walks were even better the second time. Knowing the trails, we were able to relax a bit more and spent additional time just sightseeing along the way. We also returned to Hotel Grotta, the upgrade option in Chora, the capital.. It has an excellent location looking over the town, with a very professional and friendly staff. Mama’s breakfast is definitely the finest we have seen in any On Foot recommended hotels. It’s a long time family run hotel, and they also have a family olive press and museum a 15 minute drive away. Nikoletta, who previously managed the hotel, and now oversees the olive business, is the epitome of Greek hospitality - gregarious, funny, very personable, and your instant best friend. Perhaps we’ll return a third time?

Since we have completed 18 walks with On Foot Holidays, and have several more planned for this year alone, you know that we have the utmost respect for their business and entire staff. They are very thorough, with every detail, from current travel schedules to walk directions and an excellent gps, to great little inns (whose owners always say how much they like working with On Foot), to the local Contact who is more than happy to answer any question along the way, from current trail conditions to recommended restaurants.

Fabulous Hike In the Greek Islands

We hiked with OnFoot Holidays on the islands of Naxos and Amorgos. We should have booked extra days to do all the hikes and to have time to take in the local sites. This is our third hike with OnFoot. We can't say enough good things about them. From booking the holiday to walking our final hike, they provided all the support we needed. They offer adventure at a real value. This was the first time we used the new app and we found it really helpful, particularly the GPS support for our hikes. They always ask us for feedback so they can continue to improve their vacations. We think they are pretty perfect!

Fabulous hiking trip in Greece!

We hiked on Naxos and Amorgos with On Foot Holidays and it was amazing. We had plenty of information ahead of time to review the route options and decide on the hikes for each day. The maps and background information on the islands was also extremely helpful in planning our trip and knowing what to expect. The routes were challenging and varied and took us through small villages and rural landscapes, up and down mountainsides, and to beaches and gorges, The lodging was conveniently located in town and we stayed at smaller, family-run hotels where we had nice rooms and excellent service. We were given local restaurant suggestions and information about the ferries, both of which were helpful. There was transportation to and from hikes that did not originate or end in town, which gave us the opportunity to see more of the islands. We used the hiking GPS app and that worked well, so we were able to stay on track even if the path was not clearly marked.

Rating for tour operator:

On Foot Holidays was helpful from the start and made planning the trip easy. We got plenty of information about the trip online and in a packet that arrived by post several weeks prior to our departure. We had ongoing support throughout the trip and the staff was responsive to our queries. Afterwards, they have been helpful in debriefing and responding to feedback about the trip. I would highly recommend On Foot Holidays as a tour operator.

This was our fourth trip with On Foot Holidays. As we experienced previously, hiking and travel information were spot on. They booked us in very comfortable accommodations with excellent hospitality. They promptly answered all questions in the planning phases. When all ferries were cancelled due to weather, On Foot found a lovely accommodation for one night. Excellent service!

Amorgos/Naxos walk in September

Our 4th walk with On Foot and our 2nd best. We flew into Mykonos and out of Santorini, using the ferry to get to the start and then to the finish. If you aren’t fussed about where you start and finish then do the walks the other way round as the travel by ferry will be shorter. The hotels were excellent. The locations were great. Always helpful. Has good contacts in the islands, and we like the option of paper/GPS.

Gorgeous Greece

Walking on the island of Naxos was wonderful. There was such a variety of terrain and we hardly saw other travelers on many of the walks. Our hotel was spectacular as well. We hope to return!

Very different, very wonderful walks in Greece

We combined two routes offered by On Foot Holidays, the Naxos and Amorgos islands, and the Vikos Gorge in Zagoria. Both were wonderfully memorable in their own ways; rocky sun and sea on the islands, and dramatic mountains and woodlands in the north. On Foot routes and accomodations were excellent as usual. We love their approach to seeing a region thoroughly "on foot" moving from village to village, or in the case of the islands, excursions ...

On Foot Holidays team is always prompt, thorough and friendly in responses to inquiries, choice of dates and venues, information for transfers and local conditions. The local representatives add in person contact and "on the ground" knowledge and advice. We have enjoyed over 10 holidays with On Foot over as many years and thoroughly enjoyed every one

Walking naxos and amorgos

Two totally different islands, Naxos is vibrant and full of life whilst amorgos was peaceful and tranquil. Walking was exhilarating in both places and we loved the contrasts of the different areas. Add in the small plane and ferry rides, what an experience! Loved it and we would go back again

On foot are helpful and talk you through everything you need to know from start to finish. The hotels they use are clean and well run and have quirks from the area they are in. Contacts in the area are supportive and available when you need them, can’t recommend enough.

Beautiful and unspoilt islands

We had a fabulous time and absolutely loved Naxos and Amorgos. It was a little bit like going back in time to a more simple life. The walks were wonderful and loved the little villages where there was always a little taverna where we could get some lunch.

Excellent communication and walking notes. We had an issue towards the end of the holiday with high winds which meant we had to bring our ferry crossing forward by one day, otherwise we would have missed our flight. On Foot were so helpful and arranged alternative accommodation for us on Mykonos. I couldn't fault them.
