Just what we wanted and just as promised.

Our recent (April) walking tour on the Dordogne with On Foot Holidays was superb: idyllic unspoilt French countryside, wholesome, high quality accommodation, congenial proprietors, excellent weather, and a stellar company that catered to safety, personable prompt communications and timely reliable resources.

Dordogne & On Foot Holidays Delight Us Again

Sunny, 72 (22C), green, and full of visual delights, we were very happy with our April walk through the Dordogne of SW France with On Foot Holidays. We especially loved that we were able to dine each night in our hotel, maison, or B&B. Alexis & Raphael, hosts at Maison Embellie in Gagnac-sur-Cere, are so warm and welcoming—their food and hospitality will be long remembered.

This was our 5th walk with On Foot Holidays. The new navigation app is wonderful! Their communication is practically instant, their materials carefully prepared, and their descriptions are accurate (exception: we are a bit older and slower than some, and take about 1/3 longer to walk the routes). We have met many others on these walks, and most have tried other companies—they find our written materials very impressive and have some complaints here and there. We are hard-pressed to think of one.

Great personalized service

10 day walking trip in the Dordogne region. Walks were well chosen with fascinating medieval villages and interesting countryside. Walks were the right amount of challenge (length and elevation) with good options to shorten if needed. Hotels were nicely varied, with excellent and warm service. Planned suppers at most of the hotels were excellent - could not have been better. Pick up driving service very friendly and efficient.

Dordogne family hike

Amazing family hike. We did the 6 day hike along the Dordogne with our 6 and 9 year olds. The trip was well organised and planned. The booking were adequate and appropriate. The food choices were excellent and an eye opener for those of us from down under. We used the shortenings as they were more suitable for walking with children. We managed about 15km on most days in decent weather.

They paid great attention to detail and very informative with adequate (and not excessive). The local guide too was helpful with logistics and support given our travel were with kids

Our tour operator was On Foot. Their service was perfect - from the initial booking to the holiday itself we felt so well looked after with every need catered for. A truly personal and thoughtful service that is increasingly rare these days.

The On Foot Holidays team supporting this tour was superb; checking in with us and allowing us to tailor our daily distances and always getting our luggage to our next destination. This year they added an app that kept us on the right path.

Charming and unforgettable in Dordogne

Four of us in our 70's (all experienced hikers in reasonably good shape) did the 7 night/6 day Dordogne trip. We did it early May 2025 and the flowers everywhere are a bonus hiking at that time. The route was so lovely, the towns so charming, the food everywhere was very good. Not a touristy part of the Dordogne except Rocamadour and the Gauffre de Padirac, both of which are worth it anyways. The hikes were varied and hard enough but not ...

Not a touristy part of the Dordogne except Rocamadour and the Gauffre de Padirac, both of which are worth it anyways. The hikes were varied and hard enough but not crazy hard. We liked the option, on a couple of the long hikes, to hire the bags driver to take us partway. The first couple of hotels were more modest but clean and in great locations and friendly hosts. The last 4 hotels were very nice, elegant but not fussy. Belcastel was a special treat. We wished we had booked an extra night there to spend a little more time enjoying it and relaxing before moving on. Highly recommend!

Rating for tour operator:

This was my 6th European self-guided hiking trip and the 4th tour operator. OnFoot was the best of all I have experienced. Their response time, helpfulness, great route and lodging, willingness to meet some special requests, were outstanding. Their app is very user-friendly but also detailed and comprehensive. I loved that meals were included many nights - one less thing to worry about after a day of hiking.

Warm, carefully-guided experience in Dordogne.

This was our first time in Dordogne, and our first experience with OnFoot Holidays. We were very taken by the detailed description of the route, sometimes with tiny details noted ("The track becomes an asphalt lane. It passes a house with an arched porch, and, just as the road turns to the left at a 6t sign, find a waymarked grassy track off to the R (300m)." The carefully-chosen route allowed us to spend very little time on roads, and we had ...

OnFoot Holidays was impeccably responsive to the few questions we had (For example, we once wanted to arrange an early pick-up to miss some of the day's heat,), and our baggage was transported efficiently and promptly. What more could one want?
