Silk Road Mountains & Monuments
Silk Road Mountains & Monuments OverviewCombining the cultural wonders of four great Silk Road cities with delightful day walks in the scenic Chimgan and Nuratau mountain ranges.
Highlights of Silk Road Mountains & Monuments
Starting our journey along the ancient Silk Road in Tashkent we explore the city’s sights, both old and new, before travelling up into the beautiful Chimgan mountains for three days of alpine walking. Next we head to Khiva, a UNESCO World Heritage site dating back to the 10th century, packed with splendid mausoleums, mosques and madrasahs. Our on-foot exploration continues in Bukhara, a unique ‘open air’ museum whose historic centre boasts countless bazaars and blue-domed mosques. From Bukhara we drive into the Nuratau mountains where we receive a warm welcome, staying in simple family guesthouses and experiencing every-day rural life as we walk quiet trails between traditional Uzbek villages. The final stop on our Silk Road journey is undoubtedly the most celebrated of all; Samarkand is home to many remarkable and fascinating sights, including the famous Registan Square, one of the most visually stunning examples of Islamic architecture to be found anywhere in the world.
