Treasures Great & Small: Woburn Abbey Revealed, Study Day. Coffee on arrival, followed by a lecture given by Woburn’s Curator, Matthew Hirst. After lunch (with wine) we tour the house and have the great privilege of special access to the fabled French porcelain collection, led by Dame Rosalind Savill. The day is strictly limited to 20 participants.
Woburn Abbey is one of our greatest ‘treasure’ houses. Sir John Russell, created Earl of Bedford in 1550, was granted Woburn Abbey in 1547 by the Will of Henry VIII, and it became the family’s principal seat in the 1620s. Elevated to a Dukedom in 1694, to date there have been fifteen Dukes and many have left their mark on this remarkable house. It contains not only splendid State Rooms but also an amazing series of treasures which we shall explore when the house is closed to the public.
Please note, this Study Day has now happened and we next expect to offer one similar in 2022. For the latest information about our current and future tours and Study Days please visit www.ciceroni.co.uk or call 01869 811167
