Turkish Gastronomic Gulet Cruise

If you're looking for a nice balance of history, cuisine and relaxation this cruise achieves that. Our attentive crew and great chef provided a very pleasant onboard experience while our guide, Serdar, provided engaging activities while ensuring we still had time for our pre-dinner swim.

A luxury cruise with fantastic ancient ruins and food!

A week's cruising at the end of May around Turkey with Seder our guide expertly showing us around some fabulous archaeological sites. The itinerary was so well balanced. There was just the right amount of time to relax, swim, read and sunbathe whilst also never feeling you were far from the next adventure - be that a new archeological site that was brought alive by Seder or a cooking lesson and just endless scrummy food. There was just the right amount of time to relax, swim, read and sunbathe whilst also never feeling you were far from the next adventure - be that a new archeological site that was brought alive by Seder or a cooking lesson and just endless scrummy food. The boat was delightful - the perfect size to feel luxurious, whilst not too big that it didn't feel like a boat any more. The crew were warm, endlessly helpful and tireless in their efforts. It really was a magical experience and we all agreed it was a very very special holiday. We also loved meeting our other guests too - and for them putting up with so many English girls!

Very helpful, good communication The cruise should be renamed to highlight the archeological aspect and especially the guide

A Gastronomic Gulet Cruise in Turkey

Emerging from Lockdown this was a special time for a group of friends to be together and to remind themselves just how much fun it is to travel. Cruising for seven days along the tranquil azure colored coast of Turkey and encountering unexpected gastronomic and archeological delights at every turn was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Our lovely expert guide Serdar can only be described as a Turkish National Treasure! Serdar's extensive knowledge of Turkish history, culinary arts, archeological sites, and coastal geography was second to none. I cannot express enough in words how much this gentle and thoughtful man is utterly filled with knowledge and experiences regarding his beautiful country. From his 40-plus years as an archeologist working in various sites along the Turkish Coast, Serdar was able to introduce us to small non-touristy villages, breathtaking hiking trails, family-owned restaurants serving absolutely delicious Turkish food, and undiscovered and rarely visited archeological sites. Did I mention the delicious Turkish food?! We were treated daily to the most amazing Turkish meals and received personalized cooking classes from our talented cruise chef, family-owned village restaurants, and village homes. All these experiences were shared with the other lovely tour guests with whom we thoroughly enjoyed their company.

Our guide, Serdar, is well-versed in the history of the region and did an excellent job expounding upon it as we travelled throughout the region. All the logistics of our trip were handled smoothly. Everyone in our group had an excellent experience!

Because of the small size of the group, we never felt like part of a herd, yet because the boat was so spacious, we had plenty of time and space to nap, read, relax, or just think on our own, soaking up the expanse of sun, sea, and sky. And, then to jump each day into the inviting waters of the Mediterranean, made the entire week unforgettable! This was the ideal way to see a part of the world that I never would have known how to reach, and I know we saw and experienced things that a casual tourist could not re-create -- or even get to -- without the boat or the guide.

We booked our trip with Peter Sommer Travels. We chose a Gastronomic Gullet Tour in Turkey. From the first moment we stepped on to the beautiful boat until the moment we got in our taxi to leave we were looked after superbly. The food was delicious. We spent part of every day watching or participation in preparation of and certainly eating Turkish food. As well as this we were treated to visits to ancient sites in the company of a professor from a Turkish University who was our guide and lived with us on the boat. His knowledge of his country and its history both ancient and modern was excellent and he was both fascinating and informative. We also had one day of hiking across a peninsular, stopping for tea with a farming family in the hills. There were 12 cabins on our boat and we found them very comfortable, each had either a double bed or two singles, there was an ensuite bathroom with a proper toilet and shower. We went in late May and although the sea was cold we did swim, every day we stopped in some of the most beautiful places, tiny coves, alongside ruins, small harbours. We went with good friends but still managed to make friends with the others on the boat who were like minded and joined in with everything. Sailing or motoring from place to place gave one time for reading and relaxation but one was never bored. The day we finished we had several hours to spare and our guide found a friend who took us to another wonderful set of tombs to while away some of the time waiting for our plane. We were able to leave our luggage on the boat. We were made to feel so welcome where ever we went and the trip was a wonderful mixture of the fun, the interesting and the intellectual type holiday we were looking for.

Very Efficient. Good joining instructions. Personal - I had several conversations before we went with Peter who explained everything I needed to know. They offer an extraordinary range of holidays for both families and those who wish to understand more about the ancient world in the mediterranean - these are doing holidays and the beautiful boats and places they use to stay are lovely. On our experience we would recommend these holidays to anyone who wants to understand more about the ancient world and still have time for relaxation and reflection.
