The chic KUST Hotel & Spa stands tall in the heart of Pitea and is a favourite of the Sunvil team. A family company, this 14-storey hotel is filled with stories of the Norrbotten region, in which it belongs, taking you on a journey along the Pite River. Each floor tells a story – starting with the mountains in the north and ending at the Bay of Bothnia in the south. Five different spacious and modern room categories are offered, the décor in each timeless and elegant. Each of the four suites at the KUST are themed on one of the four Nordic seasons and, due to their location on the 12th floor, offer a view over the city. Restaurant Tage, which takes its name from the hotel founder Tage Skoog, not only prides itself on the use of local produce but is also recognised as one of Sweden’s best restaurants. One floor up from the restaurant, at 53 metres, on the 14th floor you will find the highest rooftop bar on the Norrland coast – the Sky Bar, which has two rooftop terraces. Add an entire floor dedicated to the Spa, offering relaxation and pampering using natural products and you have the ideal choice whether for a weekend break, part of a multi-centre holiday or a perfect end to any holiday. The coastal town of Pitea, on the Gulf of Bothnia, is 100km south of the Arctic Circle. Its small main square (Radhustorget), which is surrounded by wooden buildings and the new townhall, was rebuilt after the town was destroyed by fire whilst under Russian attack during 1721. In fact, this was not the first major fire experienced, the first occurred a couple of kilometres away, where Pitea was originally located, during the late 1660’s. It was after the settlement was burnt down to the ground that the town was relocated to its current location, nearer to the sea. Today the old townhall is now a museum, telling the story of the battles and fires which once ravaged Pitea and how, over time, the town flourished. Connected to the square, just around the corner from the KUST Hotel and spa you will find Pitea’s main shopping street – Storgatan. The main beach resort of Pite Havsbad, with its two golden sand beaches and backdrop filled with lakes and forests can be found 10km away. Ojebyn, c.6km northwest of the centre and near to where the original settlement once stood, is a charming church town filled with old cottages, some dating back to 1804. During the winter, when the Bothnian bay freezes over, winter activities offer a wonderful way to explore the area – whether by dog sled or on an ice breaker tour out on the frozen sea.
