We had waited patiently over two years for this trip to take place as it was our 25 wedding anniversary celebration. DTW were fabulous in the rebooking and also offered us an upgrade. The cruise began in Longyearbern where we joined 12 other people for a trip of a lifetime. From the start to finish, there was never a dull moment. Our artic expedition began with spotting minke whales and dolphins. As there was light all throughout the night, I spent most hours just taking in the beautiful sea views and off course trying to spot a Blue Whale. Our Expedition Leaders were amazing. They told us about the different fjords, mountains, glaciers and artic animals which simply made it more exhilarating. We were part of a swedish group but it did not matter as they spoke fluent english and were very friendly. When we were not glued to our binoculars, we read, did karaoke with the crew, dance on deck during an amazing bbq and did our daily exercises walking around the ship. The cuisine on board was very good and plentiful. There was nothing too difficult for the crew. My best memory was simply seeing the five polar bears in different on different terrains. It was unreal. I learnt so much about the different artic birds and was the first on the ship to spot an artic fox. My cabin was glorious. Felt at times, I was in a hotel room. So in a nutshell, you have to go and witness for yourself how beautiful the Artic is and how much you do not know about this part of the world. A truly must visit place!
