Sailing Holidays

Our sustainable Tourism Vision

Sailing Holidays have been operating flotillas in the Mediterranean for over 30 years. We love the Greek Islands and we, more than anyone want them to remain as beautiful and untouched as they are for generations to come.

As well as supporting the local economy of these remote islands our Sailing Holidays are inherently sustainable. Using wind to travel from island to island is the most environmentally friendly way to travel around the Greek Islands.

Sustainable Tourism Projects from Sailing Holidays

Our Pledge to Reduce Plastic Pollution in Greece

For 40 years Sailing Holidays has been proud to offer unique flotilla holidays cruising around the Greek islands under sail. Whilst much of the coastline remains unspoilt and untouched, the sad truth is that the amount of plastic waste washing up on beaches and floating in harbours is increasing.
It’s time we started actively reducing our environmental impact on this beautiful country – not only to preserve its beauty – but also to be kinder to its diverse, yet vulnerable, marine life. So, in 2019 we’ve teamed up with Water-to-Go, an initiative to reduce plastic pollution by means of filtered water bottles which remove 99.9% of contaminants.
Our typical sailor goes through three large plastic bottles of water a day, costing on average €15 over the holiday. By buying a Water-to-Go bottle for the same price using our unique discount, our sailors will be helping the environment, while saving the hassle of carrying a heavy 6-pack to their boat every day. If all our sailors bought a bottle, there’d be 150,000 less plastic bottles thrown away every year!
We’re also trialling bio-degradable single-use cups and bin bags, which will save over 10,000 going to landfill this year alone!
We aim to end the year with 10% of our clients purchasing Water-to-Go bottles for their trips. By promoting them through our website, on social media and at trade shows, we hope to see great results and to have considerably reduced our plastic footprint in Greece.

Wind Power

Sailing is inherently sustainable. Using wind to travel from island to island is the most environmentally friendly way to travel around the Greek Islands. There is no noise pollution or engine emissions whilst sailing!

  • Customers are encouraged to use the wind wherever possible
  • This limits diesel emissions & noise pollution

The Ionian Dolphin Project

We work with the Ionian Dolphin Project. Our clients are actively encouraged to get in touch with the project when they spot a dolphin or school of dolphins!

  • The crew on our flotillas carry information for clients
  • Customers learn to identify the different species of dolphins
  • Sightings are mentioned on social media
  • We actively promote customers reporting their sightings
