Sao Miguel, Flores and Faial

Sao Miguel, Flores and Faial Overview

A two week island hopping holiday visiting three of the Azores' most spectacular islands with some guided trips and plenty of time to explore on your own, including time to visit Pico. This holiday includes your flights.

This is a great introduction to the Azores if you have 2 weeks free. Your first 6 nights will be spent on the main island split between a central hotel in the capital Ponta Delgada and the lovely Terra Nostra Garden hotel in the central highlands of Sao Miguel. You'll have a hire car so you can really explore this spectacular island with its crater lakes and pretty coastline. We also include a 3 hour whale and dolphin watching trip from Ponta Delgada. Then you fly to arguably the most beautiful island, Flores, right at the westernmost point in Europe staying at the bohemian Argonauta guesthouse for 4 nights. This is in the quiet village of Faja Grande on the west coast which has a wonderful backdrop of waterfalls cascading down cliffs to romantic pools below. There are several local restaurants to eat out at and a small shop in the village. We include a full day jeep tour of Flores to give you a real taste of the island. You then fly to Faial island for 3 nights staying in the pretty capital town Horta with its marina full of transatlantic yachtsmen at the friendly Estrela do Atlantico guesthouse. We include another full day jeep tour here so you can see the 1000ft deep crater in the centre of the island and the newly formed land at Capelinhos from 1957. If you have time, you can take the 30 minute ferry over to Pico island, go out for more whale watching or just enjoy the cafes and bars and atmosphere of Horta. Finally, you fly back to the island of Sao Miguel for two more days, exploring Furnas with some 30 springs and geysers and a visit to the Correana tea plantation before taking your flight home..
