A city break in Oslo Overview

4 night city break in Oslo, Norway Prices from £724pp. Includes return flights, and 4 nights bed & breakfast accommodation. At the end of the Oslofjord and surrounded by islands and forested hills, Oslo is an interesting and rewarding city to visit, it is also one of the oldest capitals in Europe.

Day 1 - Day of arrival On arrival at Oslo Gardermoen airport, self transfer to the Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus in Oslo. This evening, why not join a guided walking tour of the city centre (free with the Oslo Pass - included in the package) to get your bearings and to gain an understanding of the history, nature and conflicts which have made the capital the charming city it is today. The Oslo Promenade tour is available Jun-Aug (Mon, Wed and Fri) and passes by the Akershus Fortress and the Royal Palace. A light evening meal at the Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus in Oslo. Overnight at the Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus, Oslo. Day 2 - Day at leisure Day at leisure in Oslo. Opportunity to explore the Norwegian capital and to uncover its thousand year history for yourself. For first time visitors, we would recommend starting your tour at the Oslo Museum which details the foundation of the city and its development over the years. Entrance to the City Museum is free of charge with the Oslo Pass. Just 200m from the City Museum is the Vigeland Sculpture Park, an interesting albeit somewhat strange collection of over 200 bronze, granite and wrought iron sculptures made by Gustav Vigeland. One of the most photographed pieces is the screaming boy. From here, head to the main thoroughfare of Oslo - the central Karl Johans Street - and the nearby City Hall, Parliament and Cathedral. Inside the Cathedral (complimentary entrance with the Oslo Pass) you will find an ornate ceiling decorated by an extensive painting of Hugo Louis Mohr and stained glass paintings by Vigeland. A light evening meal at the Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus in Oslo. Overnight at the Clarion Collection Hotel Gabelshus, Oslo. Day 3 - Day at leisure Free time in Oslo. Today, spend the day on the Bygdøy Peninsula visiting some of the city’s most renowned and highly-praised museums. This district of Oslo is a must for any visitor interested in learning more about the Maritime History of Norway and is home to The Polar Ship Fram, Kon-Tiki Museum, The Maritime Museum and the Viking Museum - Entrance to all is available free of charge with the Oslo Pass. Our favourite museum on the peninsula is the Polar Ship Fram. This attraction is fascinating and tells the history of the Norwegian explorers, and in particular the early adventurers who explored the Arctic and the Northwest Passage. Information about the adventurers Fridtjof Nansen and Roald Amundsen is provided but the true focus of the museum are the Polar Ships Fram, Maud and Gjøa. A fabulous experience.
