New walking holiday in Moldova & Ukraine

2 Aug 2019 - KE Adventure Travel announces a brand new fascinating walking holiday in Moldova and Ukraine for 2020

More than just Chernobyl and exclusive to KE Adventure Travel, this holiday takes you off-the-beaten-track as you explore two fascinating countries in Eastern Europe. Experience slow travel at its best, with cultural city tours and rural hiking, soaking up the surroundings and connecting with the locals.

Moldova and Ukraine are the newest must-go destinations in Eastern Europe, offering unspoiled nature, fascinating Soviet history, superb wines, century-old cities and welcoming locals. This trip is perfect for those looking for easier walking and active sightseeing in a fascinating part of the world.

The trip starts in Moldova, a landlocked country nestled between Romania and Ukraine. Alongside beautiful gold-domed churches, archaeological sites and an interesting capital city, you’ll meander along footpaths, through gorges and nature reserves. On the unique Lenin Trail, named after the 4000 Lenin monuments, you’ll explore Soviet-style villages in the heart of rural Moldova as you search for the last remaining standing Lenin statues.

Moldova is known for its award winning wines and is home to the world’s largest wine cellar – stretching to almost 200km in length. You’ll explore part of these wine cellars on an easy optional cycling tour, before stopping for a spot of wine tasting. From Moldova the journey takes you to the Soviet breakaway republic of Transnistria, proudly still living in the fascinating era of the USSR. Here, there’s a feeling like you have stepped back in time as you explore the state on foot. After visiting this historical region the trip takes you across the border and into Ukraine and to the city of Odessa, located on the Black Sea.

Visiting Odessa’s catacombs, a labyrinth-like network of tunnels located under the city, you’ll explore the vast underground stone mines, which served as a hiding place for Soviet partisans during WWII before boarding the night train to Kiev, your final city. Kiev is an alluring mix of centuries-old architecture, ornate monasteries and amazing food. There is even the opportunity for an optional day visit to Chernobyl on day 8 for just £99.

Frontier Trails – Moldova and Ukraine is a new addition to KE’s highly successful range of product in Eastern Europe and prices start from £1,095 land only and £1,415 including flights. Lufthansa currently offers flights from London or Manchester to Chisinau via Frankfurt and returning from Kiev.
