Starting in the capital, explore the country's exciting food markets with an array of delicious dishes you can try. You can also combine a visit to the city's COPE exhibition centre that tells the story of the Vietnam War's impact on the country. Later travel by boat to visit the stunning Kor Long Caves, at over 7 kilometers in length they are a sight to behold.
Get off the beaten track and visit a 'bomb boat village' on the way up to the Plain of Jars. These villages have converted fuel tanks from the Vietnam War into boats for transport and fishing. On arriving at the plain of jars, have a guided tour about the history of this natural wonder - a megalithic archaeological site containing thousand of stone jars on the Xieng Khouang plateau. Take in the wildlife and array of bird species in the Nam Et National Park and later make your way down to the UNESCO Heritage Luang Prabang.
