Brilliant short break

We have just returned from the three night Northern Lights Special. We managed to see much of the spectacular scenery in such a short time - Gulfoss Waterfall, Geysir, Thingvellir National Park, geothermal sites and of course a visit to the Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is a bit off-putting when you get there, as it is so busy, but once you are in the water it is fine. The hotels were both of a very good standard. We were lucky enough to ...

We were lucky enough to see the Northern Lights too. Iceland is very expensive but we went prepared for that and the people are very friendly and welcoming.

Rating for tour operator:

Some of the paperwork for the itinerary was incorrect and needed a couple of phone calls to sort it out, but otherwise things were well-organised. The day tours were well-organised and our driver, and our guide, Ragna, were great - Ragna has a great knowledge of Iceland (her home country). The Blue Lagoon is a bit off-putting when you get there, as it is so busy, but once you are in the water it is fine. The hotels were of a very good standard. The Ranga is a 4*hotel with lovely rooms and good food - there is an observatory where you can watch the night skies through a telescope. The Northern Lights Inn is less luxurious but still of a very good standard with excellent food. Our excursion on Sunday morning with Salty Tours to the Reykjanes Peninsular was a rather surprising bonus trip - we thought it would be much the same as we had already seen but not so - thanks to Thor, our excellent guide. The highlight on the last night was the showing of the Northern Lights and so there were no disappointments! Iceland is very expensive but go prepared for that. The hotels used were of a very good standard and both in spectacular settings. The Northern Lights Inn is less luxurious but still of a very good standard with excellent food. It is very close to a geothermal plant but that doesn't seem to matter in Iceland as it is not noisy or dirty. The highlight on the last night was the showing of the Northern Lights and so there were no disappointments! The group was around 24 or us, a good mix but we all got on well. We would definitely go with Discover the World again.
