Guatemala Magnificent Seven Trek

Brilliant trek for all mountain lovers - young and old. I was 70+ when I trekked in Guatemala two years ago. The trip was extremely well organised by KE Adventure Travel. I loved the varied scenery and the ability to feel very free in my usual style of ...walking. I loved the varied scenery and the ability to feel very free in my usual style of ...walking. The group leader Sebastian and his assistant Artur will stay in my memory for ever as they allowed me to run up and down the volcanoes together with the porters.( I do not like slow walking in the mountains!) Sebastian's laissez faire style of leadership was exemplary. He was caring, considerate and with the breath of knowledge about Guatemala.

When I trekked in the Siemian Mountains a few years before I met a member of the original Karakorum Expedition who recommended KE Adventure Travel to me - I will continue to travel with KE, as so far I found them very helpful. Vanessa a member of KE team spent 45 min on the phone describing tne me her experience of this trip, which convinced me to book. NO REGRETS ! Travel with KE Adventure Travel and you will be v. happy whilst travelling and for years afterwards.

Seven Summits of Guatemala

Trekking up and down seven of Guatemala’s volcanoes including Central America’s highest volcano - expect varied terrain and challenges, abundant colour in Antigua, relaxation in Georgina’s Hot Springs and relaxing by the worlds most beautiful lake.

KE effortlessly arranged my booking just a week before the departure date - they were professional, efficient and friendly. In turn they have found a great local provider in Old Town Outfitters.

Trekking Guatemala's Magnificent Seven Volcanoes ignited all our senses!

My wife and I chose this trip with KE Adventure after reading about it in their brochure. We expected a trip with adventure, lots of outdoor experience and some relaxing in small hotels. The experience we had was way above anything we expected. The Guatemalan people and culture were fascinating, the volcanoes were all different...active and exploding, smoking, spitting lava, tree covered and verdant with life, perched above lake filled calderas...

The experience we had was way above anything we expected. The Guatemalan people and culture were fascinating, the volcanoes were all different...active and exploding, smoking, spitting lava, tree covered and verdant with life, perched above lake filled calderas. The wild camping was superbly organised and the campsites were just in amazing locations. Travelling between our base towns was as much an adventure with so much of the land and people to take in. Our food was fantastic, from local restaurants to Mario, our camp chef (he brought his chef's jacket with him!!). Our relaxing time spent in the three different towns on route was constantly full of surprising views of local culture and interaction. Our three guides were just superb with Sebastian, our leader, sharing his love of his country with us and filling us with the same passion for this place so different to our own country. The trip has been planned so it just gets better and better, you cannot believe that each day can top the last but it does. Even the last evening, instead of dining in a restaurant in town we were driven to a place high up above the town we were staying so we looked down on the town of Antigua as fireworks went off in town. The guides had organised us to buy gifts (a Secret Santa) and we had a hilarious time choosing these to finish the trip. Amazing organisation, couldn't believe it really!!

KE Adventure from Keswick organised all our trip from flights, transfers to guides. Everything was booked through them after reading their brochure. There were no hidden extras and as said the trip really exceeded expectations. Dealing with their online site to log in passports, insurance etc was simple and on the telephone everyone we spoke to was professional, informed and did exactly as they said they would. The tour operator they used in Antigua, Guatemala was Old Town Outfitters. Their guides were a pleasure to be looked after by. Their organisation of travel and accommodation was superb in a country that is at best operating at a much simpler level than ours! Hats off to all involved in making this trip one of the best holidays we have ever had (and we are a very well travelled couple!).

dreadful

Unfortunately i was paired up with someone who snored all night meaning i got no sleep. When i highlighted this to KE Adventures i was met with no sympathy or empathy. I was told i had to foot the bill for a single rooms even though my hand was forced. Lake Atitlan accommodation was fully booked which meant i had to spend two nights in the same room as the snorer which i wasn't going to tolerate. KE Adventures could've offered some compromise ...

I was told i had to foot the bill for a single rooms even though my hand was forced. Lake Atitlan accommodation was fully booked which meant i had to spend two nights in the same room as the snorer which i wasn't going to tolerate. KE Adventures could've offered some compromise or subsidy and rejected my idea going forward about vetting people who snored. So this problem will no doubt arise again. I am blogging my round the world trip and have highlighted this complaint and KE Adventures poor handling of it on my public blog. Next time I'll use Exodus

KE Adventure Travel responded to this review on 07 Jan 2016:

Dear Brian,

We do sympathise that you were kept awake by your room mate. When you contacted us about this and told us you wished to have a single room for the rest of your trip, we immediately contacted our ground agent to discuss this situation and they contacted all of the hotels and guesthouses on your itinerary to book a single room for you wherever one was available. Bearing in mind that this was the Christmas period and peak season for tourists in Guatemala, availability was limited, but we managed to secure single rooms for you in all but one of the hotels. As you knew when you booked, our holidays are costed on the basis that two people share a room although we do offer pre-booked single rooms for a supplementary charge. In your case you would have just paid the actual charges levied by the hotels to change you from twin share to a single room. Fortunately this is not a problem we come across very often, and hopefully the majority of people who are aware they snore, would arrange for a single room when booking the trip.
