This was a milestone birthday year and an opportunity to take two teenage children on their first safari. It did not disappoint. The wildlife encounters were fantastic. On arriving at the lodge we were met by buffalo, elephant and giraffe drinking at the water hole. On our first game drive we had a close encounter with a leopard, the first of four different leopards that we met over the course of four days. On day 2 we managed to see the Big 5 in a single day. Add to that the rare African Wild Dog it was an amazing safari. The lodge was perfect; great food, superb location and genuinely enthusiastic staff. The knowledge of the ranger and tracker team was first class. They were always keen to find out what animals the clients were most interested in seeing and never failed to deliver. At the same time they were always conscious of the fact that we were in the animals' environment and always respectful of that. Transfers all ran smoothly. Our week in Mauritius was a great opportunity to relax but at the same time indulge in a variety of sports and activities. The children learned to waterski, paddle board and windsurf. We managed to continue the wildlife theme by snorkelling with wild dolphins and exploring the local reef. There was a tremendous variety of restaurants.
