Sailing the Inner Hebrides by Antipodean Wanderer, 20 Aug 2018

Amazing sailing in the Hebrides

I spent a week sailing the Eda Fransden around Skye and had the best week of my holiday. I participated in crewing the boat, hoisting the jib, reefing the mainsail, learnt heaps of history of the Scottish Isles, hiked over uninhabited islands, ate the best food provided the the ships cook and met great people from all over the world. Absolutely amazing time.

Inner Hebrides Scottish Cycling Tour

The islands were a beautiful place to ride and the experience was wonderful. Everything was well-prepared as to let us enjoy the cycling. I especially loved the ferry trip to Iona Abbey and the gorgeous coastal ride later that afternoon on Mull. The lodgings were lovely and I was extremely well fed even being a total vegan. The guides were wonderful people and the bikes were good quality and safe. This was one of the best trips I've ever been ...

Wilderness Scotland obviously put great thought and care into the itinerary, routes, lodgings, and food. We had the greatest guides, Neil and Al, who made the experience so rich with their humor and knowledge on the passing flora, fauna, landmarks, and history. It felt like riding with family and they pulled out all the stops making sure we were safe, fed, and comfortable. I 100% would recommend this operator to anyone looking for a Scottish holiday and am considering going back again myself to another trip.

Amazing Family Adventure

We saw different parts of the highlands in different ways - sea kayaking, canoeing, boating, biking, hiking. Such a great variety of adventures and perfect for our whole family - we all loved it from grade schoolers through adult.

Wildernees Walking in the Orkney Islands

It was a one-week trip. We stayed in one place the whole time (excellent hotel in Kirkwall) and went out by van and ferry to various locations for day hikes of 5 to 10 miles duration. We saw breathtaking scenery, important archaeological sites, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. Our guide was excellent and the trip planning was flawless.

From the moment i was collected from the start point of the holiday till the final drop off point, the guide did everything to make sure my experience was exactly what I wanted. I was lucky I was in a small group, where our personal preferences were taken into account in the itinerary. If possible, the guides included extra excursions or substituted more suitable destinations that suited us more. The guides certainly made our trip the wonderful experience it was. They were knowledgeable, friendly, intelligent, experienced and quickly became wonderful friends. The trip itself included a different type of terrain every hike. It was great to hear about the geology, botany and history of the many places as we hiked, with lots of time to stop, touch and ask questions about what we were seeing. The accommodation was always to a good standard and staying a minimum of 2 nights made it more relaxing once we returned from a day out hiking. The food, from the packed lunches to the breakfasts and dinners at night, were more than enough and often to a gourmet standard. I absolutely loved everything about my holiday. The people, beautiful landscapes, luxury accommodation, generous and tasty meals, fun experiences and wonderful memories.

Rating for tour operator:

Wilderness Scotland are a very professional organisation. Right from the initial contact, enquiring online, they kept in touch answering any questions and keeping me informed of booking developments. The guides couldn't speak highly enough of Wilderness Scotland as an organisation to work for.
