Hills and Dales of Yorkshire

Hills and Dales of Yorkshire Overview

Coverdale, Wensleydale & Swaledale From the domineering ruins of Middleham Castle to the elegant streets of Richmond via three of Yorkshire's finest and most photogenic dales.

  • self-guided hotel-to-hotel walking, luggage transported
  • classic landscapes of three Yorkshire Dales
  • stay in atmospheric Middleham, Aysgarth and Richmond
  • admire Castle Bolton and Aysgarth Falls

The Yorkshire Dales is an area of outstanding natural beauty and at its heart lie the fast-flowing rivers, the Cover, Ure and Swale, that have carved out the spectacular scenery that we see today.
This varied walk starts with an exploration of little-known Coverdale from Middleham, with its historic castle and horse-racing stables, before heading along Wensleydale via Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton, and over to the market town of Richmond via Swaledale. En route, you walk past the mighty castles that stand guard over a rich landscape of traditional stone villages and verdant slopes criss-crossed by the dry-stone walls so characteristic of the Dales.
