Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland

Majestic mountains, shimmering lakes and tiny alpine villages all await you on this classic one week escorted break to the very best of the Swiss Alps. Interlaken is the perfect base to explore the Bernese Oblerland, famous for its mountain peaks, including the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – London to Freiburg

Join your tour leader at St. Pancras to board the Eurostar to Brussels and on to Freiburg on the edge of the Black Forest. Evening meal at your hotel which is next to the station.

Day 2 – Freiburg to Interlaken

Via Basle to our final destination, Interlaken, in the heart of the Swiss Alps. The afternoon is free for you to relax or explore. Your Swiss Travel Pass affords free travel on all public transport, including the lake steamers.

Day 3 – Mountaineering Made Easy

A wonderful excursion by train to Grindelwald, then the mountain railway to Kleine Scheidegg for impressive views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Return via Wengen and Lauterbrunnen.

Day 4 – Zermatt

Full day escorted excursion by train to Zermatt, at the foot of the famous Matterhorn.

Day 5 – The Brienzer Rothorn

By train to Brienz then mountain railway to the Rothorn Summit for amazing views of the whole area. Return from Brienz by lake steamer to Interlaken.

Day 6 – Lake Thun

Cruise the length of Lake Thun and explore the city of the same name. Free time to visit the castle, dating back to the 12th Century, as well as the museums and many cafes and restaurants along Aarequai before returning by train.

Day 7 – Via Basle to Aachen

By train via Bern to Basle, then via Frankfurt to Aachen on the Belgian border.

Day 8 – Homeward Bound

Fast train to Brussels and an easy change onto Eurostar brings us back into London by early afternoon.
