El Hierro - The Last Outpost

My son and I took a self-guided hiking holiday with InnTravel in the Canary Islands on El Hierro. It was a challenging and rewarding hiking experience. I am 60 years old and in pretty good shape and I am very glad that I took hiking poles for this trip. We ascended and descended almost 1000 metres on average each day. An amazing location off the beaten trail with breath taking scenery surrounded by the ocean.

Walking holiday on El Hierro

Inntravel organised every aspect of the holiday; flights to Tenerife, then on to El Hierro, overnight accomodation on el Hierro, taxis and luggage transfers between the vaious accomodation. Apart from the bus transfer between the two Tenerife airports everything was provided. The suggested walking routes were excellent with very usable and accurate route notes. I rang Inntravel with a query about the holiday. After answering my query they offered to book it on the phone, rather than me using the internet. Once I had chosen the start day/date, they quickly organised the flights and initiated the process of checking the various accommodations were available. The next day they confirmed that everything was definately arranged. Their arrangements were excellent fron booking right through to completion of the holiday.

Walking the Iron Island

A week of challenging walking on a peaceful and tranquil island. A slower and more relaxed approach to daily life by the locals, the English language is not widely spoken but they are happy to allow visitors to try out their Spanish conversational skills. A slower and more relaxed approach to daily life by the locals, the English language is not widely spoken but they are happy to allow visitors to try out their Spanish conversational skills. A quite different holiday environment compared with the traditional Canaries experience. The contrast in terrain, appearance and climate is quite noticeable and the atmosphere reminded me of summer days gone by. The challenges in accessing the destination add to the sense of adventure and I was able to leave some aspects of El Hierro to be visited on a future return.

Rating for tour operator:

Inntravel processed the details and organisation of my holiday in a skilful and friendly manner and dealt with my queries helpfully and professionally, especially in view of the relatively short time scale I presented them with. There were no unpleasant surprises so their research and attention to detail was "spot on"!

Great holiday experience with Inntravel

Our first organised walking holiday was over the Christmas period on the island of El Hierro in the Canary Islands. We booked through Inntravel. We enjoyed some great walks and it was lovely to get away from the 'madding crowd'. A remote island with very little traffic and some beautiful landscapes.

Inntravel exceeded our expectations and made everything very easy for us including dealing with a delayed flight and the knock-on effects. We would thoroughly recommend them and we are in the process of choosing our next walking break with them. Can't praise them highly enough.

This holiday is new for this autumn/winter, so we're delighted to hear that you enjoyed it. We've had plenty of practice getting customers to and from their holidays in spite of delayed flights over the years and were happy to help!
