Garrotxa Grandeur

My wife and I hiked six days in the Garrotxa region of Catalunya northwest of Barcelona. The route selected provided a fine mix of forest and flora, mediaeval villages, fascinating and spectacular geography. We'd been told to expect afternoon thundershowers at that time of year (September) but the weather turned out to be glorious -- sunny and clear, not a drop of rain. Our arrangements (hotels, luggage transfer, navigation instructions etc.) were made by On Foot and they were all first-rate. We had no prior experience with On Foot so we didn't know what to expect but, looking at our experience in the rear-view mirror, we have nothing but good things to say about On Foot.

Hiking in Northern Portugal

In September 2013 my wife and I did a "On Foot Holidays" seven day hike in the hill country of Peneda-Geres Portugal. On Foot Holidays provided us with detailed trail maps, trail notes, and directions for transportation to the start point. They arranged lodging, transport of our luggage and provided us with local contact.

On Foot Holidays does a wonderful job of planning independent hiking vacations in a number of countries and locations. They do a very complete job of taking care of all the details so that their clients have an enjoyable and trouble free hiking vacation. They are a pleasure to work with. We have enjoyed On Foot Vacations in France, Spain and most recently Portugal.

A delightful trek, with excellent instructions, over beautiful mountains in Northern Italy

On Foot Holidays organised for a group of 6 of us to walk about 100 miles in Liguria, staying in small hotels en route. They made the bookings, and arranged for luggage to be carried from one hotel to the next, and - most importantly - supplied excellent instructions telling us exactly where to walk, sometimes on small paths and nearly all in areas without signposts.

All arrangements were efficiently made, including some special arrangements for one member of the party who had to join 24 hours later than the others.

Expertly organised holiday in a beautiful area

We went to Provence with On Foot and had an excellent time. All the hotels we stayed in were lovely, the food was delicious and the weather was perfect for walking - dry and sunny but not too hot. The office staff, particularly Debbie, were very helpful with sorting out arrangements for getting to the start of the walk and advice on where else we might want to visit in the area.

On Foot have an excellent range of walking holidays in beautiful unspoilt areas. We have been on two of their trips and all the arrangements were very well organised - hotels, trip notes, luggage transfer - and the staff take a personal interest in ensuring clients have a good holiday. They even rang us up the day before we left to say they hoped we had a good time.

Walking in Catalunia

Excellent choice of accomodation, good maps for the walks, and good food - what more could you want. Very interesting walks with a variety of scenario.

A delightful introduction to a charming part of provence at ground level

I had not travelled in Provence before , nor with what the French insist on calling One Foot, and I was attracted by a reasonably strenuous walk, unaccompanied and to my own timetable. I made my own way by rail to Avignon Station with my 42 year old son and was delighted that thereafter the beds, catering and routes were able to unroll with a minimum of confusion as the maps and village plans were highly comprehensive and annotated. I made my own way by rail to Avignon Station with my 42 year old son and was delighted that thereafter the beds, catering and routes were able to unroll with a minimum of confusion as the maps and village plans were highly comprehensive and annotated. Some of our evening meals were excellent and where we were fending for ourselves suitable guidance was available. All accommodation was perfectly adequate and occasionally eccentric but enjoyable and although variable the range of packed lunches was also fine. The area was far less densely populated than I had anticipated and I felt a genuine affinity with a natural area. Our 2 nights in Avignon were well based booked through On Foot although we were properly left to our own devices. The individual taxi arrangements were efficiently executed although the first driver did not know where the hotel was in the small village where our walk began. The local contact was extremely helpful to my son lending him walking poles when he was suffering from knee strain but we were treated as grown up walkers and not pestered. On Foot has a light touch which in preparation is very personal and in due course I would hope to travel under their arrangements again.

Inspirational walk in Slovenia

We spent eight days following an excellently planned route through the Karst region of Slovenia. The route was very well explained and maps provided. The scenery was beautiful and varied and the walking suited our level. The accommodation in tourists farms was all excellent with generous and friendly hosts.

A week walking the Rhine Valley

Walking along the Rhine Valley from Bingen to Koblenz covered lots of history, castles, forests and the huge and busy river, as well as local food and wine. Some of the days were strenuous, but there are lots of alternatives (boat, train, chairlift) to help get you to the hotel for the night if you don't feel like doing the whole, or any, of the day's walking.

They provided lots of information - where to eat, what wines to look out for, history along the route, and very detailed walking notes and maps - and were receptive to feedback about things which didn't work well or which might have changed since they prepared their tour notes.

Although quite tough the walking was exhilarating and the sense of personal achievement was terrific. We are looking forward to doing another one next year with the same company.

Rating for tour operator:

We chose On Foot Holidays from many operators offering similar tours on the internet because of their impressive presentation, holiday descriptions and itineraries and the glowing reviews posted by their clients. The package of maps, route guides and terrain descriptions was excellent. They arranged our hotel bookings in charming mountain inns and also arranged for our luggage to be transferred from hotel to hotel leaving us only carrying a small day pack on the walk. All arrangements worked smoothly . The safety contacts they have in place and the fact that the operators have themselves walked the route was also very reassuring.

A wonderful walk in beautiful country with everything logistical completely taken care of for us.

We spent 6 days walking from Salisbury to Lyme Regis through gorgeous countryside. We tramped carefree while our luggage was transported between boutique B&B accomodation spots all organised by On Foot. We were so relaxed and liberated by the feeling of freedom from holiday logistics responsibility - we were left free to just set out, follow the paths and keep on walking!

We exchanged many friendly emails with the On Foot team in the months leading up to our holiday, and were delighted to meet Simon and Mary in person on arrival! They were always proactive, organised, helpful and friendly, even taking our calls while we were out on our trip when we needed guidance! We really appreciated how personal and genuine was all contact with the company members.
