- search for elk and explore a frozen canyon
On arriving at Hindsæter in the heart of central Norway, you will be struck by the serenity of your surroundings and the fabulous unspoiled views, stretching uninterrupted across this remote valley towards the mountains of the Jotunheimen National Park. Nowhere could be more inviting for a week of leisurely exploration, whether you choose to go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and winter walking.
The hotel was built here in the late 19th century by a farmer called Otto Østrem, and when the first guests arrived in 1898, it was pretty basic but a shelter nevertheless. Since then it has developed into a comfortable hotel with all the creature comforts you could desire, including an acclaimed restaurant. Outside, however, little has changed. The valley is still quiet and unspoiled: the settlement still only consists of the hotel and a few of summer farms, making it feel very much removed from the modern world. Highlight of your week's stay include a trip into the forest in search of the might elk, and a walk through a frozen canyon past huge icicles and ice ‘caves’. And at the end of each day in the snow, you return to the special atmosphere of Hindsæter for a truly memorable holiday.
