COX & KINGS INTRODUCES COLLECTION OF TOURS TO EUROPEAN FILM LOCATIONS

London – 28 April 2014

One of the magical aspects of television and film is the ability to show viewers an aspect or side of a destination that they would not have seen or thought about before. With the increased popularity of certain genres of television and films, more and more viewers are looking to travel to locations filmed in their favourite films or television shows. Encouraging this trend, Cox & Kings now offers a range of holidays focusing on locations that have been used from seminal films such The Godfather to modern day dramas like The Bridge and Borgen.

In the Footsteps of Inspector Montalbano is a 3-night self-drive journey from £595, which visits the region of Sicily that inspired renowned author Andrea Camilleri's detective novels about Inspector Montalbano. The itinerary visits the main locations from the book and series, including the settings for the fictional town of Vigàta and Montelusa, which will bring these fictional detective stories to life.

In the Footsteps of Borgen and Broen is a 3-night private tour to Copenhagen priced from £1,195. This includes a visit to Borgen – nickname for Christiansborg Palace – where the Danish government sits as well as driving across the Oresund link to Malmo. Part underwater tunnel and par cable-stayed bridge, this is where the opening scene of Broen – the Bridge – was filmed.

In the Footsteps of The Godfather is a 5-night private tour to Sicily priced from £1,715, including 3 nights in the coastal town of Taormina and 2 nights in the capital Palermo. Often voted as the most popular film trilogy of all time, this trip will visit locations where the films were set including Corleone, birthplace of the principal family in Mario Puzo’s novels, with its museum dedicated to the mafia, and Bar Vitelli, one of Coppola’s favourite spots.

In the Footsteps of the Millennium series is a 3-night private tour to Stockholm priced from £765. Films of all three books have been released in Sweden as well as an English language adaptation of the first novel from Hollywood. This tour offers the chance to see first-hand where the main characters, investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist and asocial computer hacker Lisbeth Salander, live and work on the central island of Södermalm in Stockholm.

In the Footsteps of Wallander is a 3-night tour to Copenhagen priced from £1,080. A full-day walking tour of Ystad is included visiting Mariagatan, the street that Inspector Wallander lives on, the station, Fridolfs Konditori bakery, Sten Widen’s farm and Stortorget city square. On the southern tip of Sweden with mediaeval, pastel-coloured houses lining cobblestone streets, Ystad is as attractive as it is portrayed in the films and television series.

All prices are per person and include flights from London, private transfers, excursions and accommodation with breakfast daily.

NOTE TO EDITORS
Cox & Kings is the world’s longest established travel company. Its history stretches back more than 250 years to 1758 when Richard Cox was appointed regimental agent to the Footguards (later the Grenadier Guards). The company’s fortunes grew hand in hand with the British empire and by the early 20th century the company was acting as agent and banker throughout the armed forces and as a shipping agent. In 1922 Cox & Co merged with the Henry S King bank, which had strong connections with India. The bank became part of Lloyds and the shipping agency grew separately, evolving into the modern travel company.

Today, built on the high quality service and attention to detail established by Richard Cox in the 18th century, the company continues to flourish as an independent tour operator, with operations in London, the US, Japan, Australia and throughout India. Cox & Kings organises escorted small-group tours and private tailor-made travel in the Indian Subcontinent, Latin America, the Middle East, the Far East, Africa, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, and the Caribbean.
