Lake Malawi Holiday

Lake Malawi Holiday Overview

A week on the shores of Lake Malawi is the perfect add-on to a safari in southern Africa or can be taken as a holiday in its own right.

You’ll be staying in a lovely lodge on an island in the middle of the lake, a real away-from-it-all location. The island is covered with mango and baobab trees and has lovely sandy beaches and small rocky coves.

Kaya Mawa, voted one of the top ten ‘most romantic places in the world’ by Conde Nast, is on the southwest tip of the island on a scenic beach. There’s no pressure to do anything other than relax, enjoy the sun and swim in the crystal clear waters. Take you pace from the name of the lodge, which translates as ‘maybe tomorrow’. But there are plenty of activities on offer, too, from a comprehensive range of watersports to exploring the island on foot and by bike. As well as natural beauty, inland you’ll find friendly, smiling people, local villages and, interestingly, a cathedral the size of Winchester’s!

You’ll be treated to some wonderful food at Kaya Mawa, which prides itself on using fresh, organic produce, hand-picked herbs and locally sourced fish and meat. You can enjoy candle-lit dinners on the beach or on a secluded deck overlooking the lake and with wine selected from the lodge’s cellar. The beach bar is just a few metres from the water’s edge. From here you’ll see some stunning sunsets while savouring your favourite tipple and looking forward to your next day on the island.
