Morocco

Anyone who has visited the vibrant country of Morocco will immediately think of colours and warmth. The colourful buildings, scenery, food and spices are a feast for the senses.

The spring climate makes this a great time of year to enjoy Morocco without the battle of summer heat! Our ten day tour takes us from the mountains to desert and then the coast. The wave like curves of light and shade on the sand in the desert constantly changes, especially at sunrise and sunset, so we have allowed plenty of time to experience this and capture some beautiful images.

Our tour of Morocco will include the foothills of the Atlas Mountains where poppies grow amongst the corn, growing in turn between the olive trees. The farmed lowland with the snow-capped mountains setting the scene is remarkably beautiful.

With The Atlas Mountains alongside for much of our journey, we visit the photogenic Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou then Todgrha and Dades Gorges. The colourful markets, buildings and swathes of green countryside are wonderfully vibrant friendly places.

Once we reach The Sahara Desert we will shoot sunset at the edge of the dunes before heading to our hotel for dinner. The following morning we will take an early stroll into the dunes for sunrise as first light sculpts the sand once more.

Here we will swap our four wheels for four legs. Camels will take us deeper into the dunes later in the day where we will camp (on beds) and have dinner after sunset. From our camp you see desert in all directions. Compositions are endless and the shadows appear to change the shape of the landscape all the time. With no light pollution, on a clear night the milky way and stars are so clear to see with the naked eye that you will be inspired to shoot some astro images from close to camp.

After our final sunrise in The Sahara we will head back to our hotel to travel to the caramel coloured oasis of Ourzazate. We rest here for the night before heading to the Atlantic coast the next day.

The architecture of Essaouira is Portuguese, French and Berber and frames the maze-like streets of the vibrant port and resort town on the Atlantic Ocean. The blue door and window frames and shabby walls are delightfully photogenic as are the colourful market stalls. Outside the medina walls the blue fishing boats nestle together while the fishermen go about their business. We have a whole day here to potter about exploring the alleyways and post before our transfer back to the airport the following morning.

The tour is limited to eight participants and will be led by Andy Farrer. We will have a guide to escort us for the duration of the tour to enable us to get to the best places and allow us to focus purely on photography, not logistics. We are returning to this destinaton in 2019 after a sell-out tour this year which was a smash hit!
