Masai Mara Big Cat Safari

Masai Mara Big Cat Safari Overview

The Masai Mara is one of the best known safari destinations in the world and its big cats are famous. This is your chance to spot lion, cheetah and leopard, led by an expert guide. What’s more, you’ll be staying at Governor’s Camp, host to the BBC’s Big Cat Diary.

The Mara is a good all year safari destination, the big cats are always present. You’ll see more than cats, too. The Big 5 can be seen here, as can giraffe, hippo, gazelle, impala, cheetah and, of course, wildebeest. Over 400 species of birds have been recorded here, too. You really are in for a treat. Most of your time will be spent on game drives, but there may also be opportunities for walking safaris and instructive visits to local Maasai communities.

Governors Camp is on the banks of the Mara River in one of the most game rich areas of the reserve. The location has long been prized and was once reserved for the exclusive use of Kenya’s colonial governors, but today you can enjoy it too. Guest tents are large and light. They have verandas with views of the river or the plains.
