An exciting island-hopping walking holiday in the spectacular Aeolian archipelago.
Visit the seven small yet breath taking UNESCO World Heritage listed islands the can be found off the northeast corner of Sicily, characterised by dark volcanic verges rising dramatically from azure seas; these are the islands of the Aeolian archipelago. These islands are ideal for keen hikers with a passion for coastal walking, as all have wild landscapes, sun and sea to offer. During the week we explore the beautiful islands of Stromboli, Vulcano, Lipari, Salina and Panarea on foot, travelling between them by boat and hovercraft. Each island is different with its own distinctive personality and attractions however the exceptional cuisine is a real highlight across all islands; fresh fish, lots of locally grown fruit and vegetables, and ice-cold granita made from island oranges and lemons.
Mount Etna standing at an impressive 3,350m, overlooks the islands here. During our trip we will have chance to explore the mountain, walking between lava flows and extinct craters on her inhospitable smouldering flanks, and on a clear day take in the superb views across southern Sicily. When visiting the island of Stromboli we have the opportunity to have a guided climb to the amazing summit, but due to the regular eruptions of the volcano this may not be possible on the day.
In addition to the explosive walking there will be many chances to cool down with swims in the inviting waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
