Apples & Vines Cycle

Apples & Vines Cycle Overview

Staying in the historic towns of Bolzano and Trento, cycle through the vineyards and orchards coating the valley floors beneath high peaks.

  • self-guided hotel-to-hotel cycling, luggage transported
  • leisurely cycling against a mountain backdrop
  • gastronomic region with a wealth of cultural interest
  • designated, well-signed cycle tracks

Apples may not be the first thing to spring to mind when you think of the Alps, but, on the valley floors around Bolzano, just south of the Austrian border, neat rows of fruit trees, interspersed with equally precise rows of vines, stretch as far as the eye can see.

The orchards are not the only surprise awaiting the first-time visitor. Complemented by the delicious local Vernatsch, Lagrein and Gewürztraminer wines, the excellent cuisine has strong Austrian influences, and German is widely spoken. Cycling-wise, the terrain is remarkably easy-going, despite the backdrop of high peaks, with good rail links to help shorten some routes.
