Italy’s ‘heel’ is a land of olive groves that stretch as far as the eye can see, a picturesque coastline riddled with caves, Baroque architecture, and whitewashed, flat-roofed houses reminiscent of the Aegean. There is a faded, unpretentious charm to the towns and villages, while the delicious gastronomy draws on the rich flavours of the Mediterranean.
Our discovery of southern Puglia features three hotels of character, from which you can walk and explore at leisure. We provide route notes for some scenic strolls, as well as suggested driving itineraries that take in the most beautiful architectural treasures as well as some excellent restaurants where you can pause for a leisurely lunch of pasta and seafood accompanied by a crisp dry or slightly sparkling white Locorotondo or a full-bodied red Primitivo wine.
