Ciceroni's Tour to DRESDEN, 14th-19th April, 2015 was my 11th Tour with them, and one of its most outstanding.

Care for our well-being, in the splendid Hotel Taschenbergpalais Kempinski included some fine meals, made us a particularly happy group, among whom I was delighted to find seven friends I'd known from other tours, and to make new friends, too. The excellent teamwork of Tom Duncan and out local guide, Susanne Reichelt ensured our full appreciation of the contents of museums, gardens and other sites that we visited. The necessary last-minute substitution of an excursion to the 'Saxon Alps' was an inspiration that, added to our rides by both train and boat ensured a rich variety of experiences in a beautiful city and its surrounding countryside. The wonder we felt in seeing the restored Frauenkirche as tourists was enhanced by our being able to attend a performance of Schubert's Mass there, too. Similarly, the performance of TOSCA in the magnificent Semper Opera house was a particular thrill.
Rating for tour operator:This was my 11th Ciceroni Tour and I'm impatient to go on another. The choice of hotels, places for group meals and sheer friendly conviviality of the groups, among whom one's number of friends increases, enhance the choice of art galleries, museums, gardens and architectural sites in which the enthusiastic expertise of Tom Duncan and his team guarantee a high degree of intellectual satisfaction. As a retired academic I rate Dr Duncan as the best lecturer I've ever encountered and I can think of non other kind of tour that would give me so much pleasure.
Excellent

Rating for tour operator:Ciceroni Travel had devised a well planned five day break in Dresden. We were accommodated in probably the best hotel in Dresden. Travel arrangements went without a hitch in both directions. BA flight to Berlin (Tegel). Coach from Berlin to Dresden very comfortable. Various excursions were described either by Tour Leader or by highly competent local guide depending on content. Catering arrangements on excursions first class. I have no complaints only praise for the whole holiday.
Very interesting and varied tour to Dresden and immediate area with guides whose knowledge made it special.
Excellent guides both local and from Ciceroni. Good mix of museums, Churches and local attractions including Opera, concert and boat trip. Hotel very good with outstanding location.

Rating for tour operator:Small company specialising in art history and garden tours with high standard hotels used and the personal attention and knowledge of the owner making the difference.
The Exuberance of the Saxon Court in Dresden
Dresden is a beautiful city located on an elbow of the picturesque River Elbe . It was completely flattened during WWII into a heap of stones and rubble and killing 25,000 people. The palaces and churches in the centre have been faithfully restored to their former glory and now house the magnificent collections of Augustus the Strong. We stayed in a very comfortable centrally located hotel, found some very good restaurants, attended a performance at the opera house and a concert in the Frauenkirche. The people are friendly and very helpful. Dresden is a an excellent destination for a City Break.
Rating for tour operator:We travelled with Ciceroni who organized and arranged our trip very well - Comfortable hotel, excellent guides and good bus driver.
Couldn't be faulted
The organisation of the trip was interesting and informative and there was a splendid balance between cultural and aesthetic content. The planning left little to be desired and the caption "multum in parvo" would aptly summarise the experience.

Rating for tour operator:Tom Duncan has the rare ability to combine erudition with wit. The mastery of his knowledge is only surpassed by the ease of delivery. His attention to detail is magnificent and he has a caring personality which ensures that nobody is left out of any aspect of the tour.

We also spent some time visiting interesting castles and gardens a few miles outside the city, travelling by very comfortable coach and also a local steam train and a short paddle boat trip on the river Elbe. We also visited Meissen, walked around the town and visited the famous porcelain factory. This is a trip for those interested in history and art. There were optional visits to the Opera and a concert in the evenings. All the group meals were first class.
Rating for tour operator:Ciceroni Travel is a first class travel company. Great attention is paid to detail.Accommodation and food is always the very best. Tom Duncan himself usually leads the tour or he employs another expert and he also employs a very professional local guide to accompany him. Tom Duncan is a very learned scholar and an excellent communicator. His enthusiasm for his subject is very apparent.
