Tour of Mont Blanc

170 km and around 10,000 metres of ascent/descent while walking around the Mont Blanc massif may sound like hard work, and at times it was. But every step was a joy, opening up new high alpine vistas. Glacier views most days, and interesting contrasts between the valleys in France, Switzerland, and Italy: you could definitely tell when crossing a frontier. You need a reasonable standard of fitness (and some determination) to complete the tour ...

Glacier views most days, and interesting contrasts between the valleys in France, Switzerland, and Italy: you could definitely tell when crossing a frontier. You need a reasonable standard of fitness (and some determination) to complete the tour but its well worth it. Proof also that European mountains stand comparison with the Himalaya and the Andes.

Trekked with KE many times, across 4 continents. Always good, often great.

Good fun but could have been better

- Good weather - Spectacular views - Great group - Breakfast in Trient was a bit too basic with not enough choice

Excellent tour and organisation, best in good weather

The Tour du Mont Blanc is one that I'd recommend to anyone who likes walking and scenery. It was the right level for me as my first multi-day walk. Staying in a hotel every night (refuge one night) is a welcome way to relax, and the food was good. Hotels vary, all are good but some are better. The baggage support van was crucial for me, not having to carry more than a day rucksack made it so much easier and meant I could take everything I wanted ...

Staying in a hotel every night (refuge one night) is a welcome way to relax, and the food was good. Hotels vary, all are good but some are better. The baggage support van was crucial for me, not having to carry more than a day rucksack made it so much easier and meant I could take everything I wanted with me for the evenings and nights. We had an excellent guide with decades of experience of the Alps - it was clear that this was more than just a job for her. Her knowledge of the Alps, the Tour, the communities, animals, and plants is very broad and deep. She interacted with and got along with the group very well. The group were of about the same fitness, and there wasn't any rushing so no pressure and plenty of time to take photos. As with any walking holiday in similar areas, enjoyment is much dependent on the weather - it could vary your holiday from very poor to excellent. We had good weather for about 8 of the 10 days.

Rating for tour operator:

Well organised, good documents, information and communication. I wouldn't expect anything less for the price, which is a bit on the expensive side when you add up the costs of what you get for the money (up to 10 in the group) - guide, baggage transfer, twin/double fairly basic hotel rooms, and all meals.
