From the Alps to the Mediterranean - adventure with reassurance

My brother (70) and I (80) walked from La Brigue to Menton, mainly on mountain tracks. Each day had a different character, but each was interesting and led us through mountain villages, chestnut groves and alpine meadows. Overnights were in interesting historic towns and villages, with a rest day in Sospel where, in the morning, my brother sketched and I explored the old part of the town. Overnights were in interesting historic towns and villages, with a rest day in Sospel where, in the morning, my brother sketched and I explored the old part of the town. In the afternoon we visited the impressive subterranean Maginot Line fort. The overnight accommodation was varied but, in every case, of very good value for the money. The food was excellent and the packed lunches a challenge! Finishing in style at the Princess et Richmond in Menton was a real bonus! The backup from On Foot Holidays was excellent and their support pack removed any anxiety we might have felt at being on our own. Route timings were realistic.

A self-guided walk in the lovely Alpes Maritimes region of the south of France.

We stayed in Nice for a couple of nights and then travelled by train to the start of the walk. Each day for 6 days as we walked down the well-signed route we stayed in B&Bs that also provided packed lunch and dinner when the options were otherwise limited or non-existent. Bookings were made efficiently and all locations were very pleasant. Hosts were, for the most part, also very charming and helpful and were always pleasant. Luggage was transferred ...

The whole experience was relaxing and we were able to focus on the walking without having to worry about other logistical issues.

Mountain to the sea walking holiday

We have been on several holidays with OnFoot but this year we did their Alpes Maritime walk. We went in July and the weather was a bit too hot for us but it is marked in the brochure as not being the ideal time. The service from the office is wonderful. The staff know the holidays and the personal care they give including a phone call the day before departure and a phone call on the first day of the holiday from the local rep makes you feel ...

We went in July and the weather was a bit too hot for us but it is marked in the brochure as not being the ideal time. The service from the office is wonderful. The staff know the holidays and the personal care they give including a phone call the day before departure and a phone call on the first day of the holiday from the local rep makes you feel very cared for. The walking notes are accurate and beautifully presented in daily packs. The hotels are always interesting and give an insight into local life which would be very difficult to find independently. They vary in standard - from the one star in La Brigue where we really enjoyed being part of the local village to the very comfortable 4 star hotel in Menton.

Rating for tour operator:

Very caring and, even more importantly, very knowledgeable. I feel I have met them all and really appreciate the individual care and attention we receive.
