An Island of Surprises

An Island of Surprises

An Island of Surprises Overview

No walking holiday on Cyprus would be complete without experiencing the wooded foothills of Krasochoria and the gentler landscapes of the Akamas Peninsula.

  • two-centre, self-guided walking holiday
  • rewarding walking in two landscapes, foothills and coast
  • warm, hospitable culture
  • rich flora and fauna, plus world heritage archaeology
  • car hire included

Renowned for its hospitality, that is as warm as the plentiful sunshine, Cyprus is an island rich in history and full of surprises; of soaring, pine-clad mountains, numerous tiny frescoed churches and dramatic, internationally important, archaeological sites. There is so much to discover here, from diverse flowers, unexpectedly alpine-like valleys and views that stretch as far as the coast, to traditional hamlets where the villagers amaze you with their friendliness.

In the Krasochoria wine region, on the southern slopes of the central Troodos Mountains, are timeless villages, herb scented terraced slopes and, of course, excellent small wineries. In the west, on the Akamas Peninsula, near where Aphrodite is said to have bathed after her trysts, is a contrasting landscape of azure seas and goat-grazed hillsides, ablaze with flowers in early spring. With the freedom a hire car brings, you have the pick of our varied walks, each with sweeping views to reward the walker, and opportunities to see some of the island’s best ancient treasures.
