ITINERARY

Day 1 - Hello Helsinki

Late morning direct flight from London Heathrow to Helsinki-Vantaa followed by a private transfer to our hotel for a welcome dinner and a 2-night stay.

Day 2 - Free Time

At leisure with a Helsinki Card giving access to the city's many sights and unlimited travel on the public transport system. Helsinki's tram system is one of the oldest electrified tram networks in the world and is the main form of transport in the city centre. Alternatively you may wish to take the train to Hyvinkää to visit the impressive Finnish Railway Museum housing an impressive collection of 19th Century locos and rolling stock.

Day 3 - Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress

We take a waterbus over to Suomenlinna Maritime Fortress, one of the biggest sea fortresses in the world and now listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built in the 18th Century on a small group of islands, this fortress has a rich history and we get the opportunity to explore it all on foot. We then travel onwards by rail to Turku, our home for the next 2 nights.

Day 4 - Jokioinen Museum Railway

Jokioinen Museum Railway is the only remaining continuously operated narrow gauge railway in Finland and preserves the tradition of the 1898 built Jokioinen Railway. Our visit sees us charter the train from Humpilla to Minkiö where we are treated to a guided tour of the locomotive sheds and workshop. Lunch at the station is also included before we make our return journey to Humpilla and then Turku.

Day 5 - Turku to Tampere

A morning at leisure to explore this medieval city with its cobbled streets, market square, castle and cathedral. We take an early afternoon train to Tampere where we have a 1-night stay. The city is located in a scenic spot between two lakes and this evening, we take a 'summer night feeling' cruise on one of them - Pyhäjärvi Lake.

Day 6 - On to Estonia

Rail back to Helsinki this morning with a little free time before we board an afternoon ferry across the Gulf of Finland. Our destination is Estonia's capital Tallinn where we have a 2-night stay.

Day 7 - Tallinn at Leisure

A free day to enjoy all that this city has to offer, from its bustling city centre to its UNESCO World Heritage Site ‘old town’. We have a 48-hour Tallinn Card for unlimited use on the city's trams, trolleybuses and buses, as well as free access to over 40 of the best attractions.

Day 8 - Baltic Express

We have another day to discover the city before we board the Baltic Express for the overnight journey to Russia. On board we travel in single and double occupancy cabins. There is no restaurant car on board but there is a supply of hot and cold water.

Day 9 - Good Morning Moscow

Morning arrival into Moscow for a 2-night stay. We are too early to check in to our hotel so we take a guided tour of the city by bus. Visits include the iconic St Basil's Cathedral and Novodevichy Convent, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 10 - Moscow Metro Tour

"They used to have palaces for kings, we are going to build palaces for the people" said one of the main architects of the Soviet metro. We take a private guided tour of some of the most ornately decorated stations of this famous network, followed by an afternoon at the Kremlin and the surrounding cathedrals.

Day 11 - Latvika Express

After a day at leisure, we board the Latvika Express for the overnight journey to Latvia. Once again, we travel in 2-berth cabins with single-occupancy for those travelling independently. There is a restaurant car on board this train.

Day 12 - Riga

Morning arrival into Latvia where we have a free day to enjoy the largest of the three Baltic capitals. A 48-hour Riga Pass entitles us to free travel on the city's trams, trolleybuses and buses. It also offers free or discounted entry into many of the sights and museums.

Day 13 - To Sweden

Spend another day venturing around Riga or head further afield by rail (payable locally) to the popular coastal resort town of Jurmala. Early evening, we board an overnight ferry which takes us back across the Baltic Sea to Sweden. Accommodation is in 2-berth inside cabins (upgrades available) for double or single occupancy.

Day 14 - Stockholm Steamboat Cruise

Arrive into Stockholm mid-morning, drop off our bags at the hotel and make our way to the harbour. We board the S/S Storskär for a lunchtime circular cruise of the archipelago to Rindö, stopping at Vaxholm on both the outbound and inbound journeys. Lunch is available to purchase on board from the cafeteria or in the restaurant (reservation recommended). We dock mid-afternoon and have the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 15 - Fly to London

After a morning at leisure with a public transport pass at our disposal, we have a private transfer to the airport for our mid-afternoon direct flight back to London Heathrow.
