Lubeck and the Hanseatic League

This was a well-organised study tour to a variety of destinations around Lubeck, from which we gained considerable knowledge of the Hansa, German brick gothic architecture, mediaeval north German church architecture and mercantile trade throughout the north German and Baltic areas. It was both well-managed and well conducted by our architectural historian lecturer.

Art Pursuits has never failed to meet our expectations in providing small-group cultural holidays to interesting places, with like-minded fellow travellers and carefully steered by both tour manager and lecturer. We are always well looked after, but discretely so!

Unique tour of Reformation art, architecture and impact

A well planned tour to take in significant sites and artifacts relating to the 500 yrs celebration of Luther's first challenge to the Roman Catholic Church. The special exhibtions were a "once in a lifetime" experience. Tour led by expert art historian and tour manager who also happened to be a 19th Century historian...marvellous. Good hotels, food and pace. All to gether an unforgetable holiday cum learning experience.

Reformation 500

A well-designed tour covering several different angles to the main topic of Reformation, reinforced by excellent lecturer. Uli Ziegler is expert, well-informed and up-to-date in her researches. She is also able to articulate clearly for the non-expert, has humour and vivacity.

The office was as efficient as always. Information, instructions, briefing all perfect and delivered well on time. Susi Lindner as Tour Manager is a great find and I hope she will find a place in the Art Pursuits team in future.

Everything went to plan except for an expected exhibition being already closed. I admire the way they are continuing to operate "as normal" following the recent death or their director, Dr Joachim Strupp

A varied and thrilling week in a little-known part of Germany - a revelation and a lot of fun.

The tour was to Swabia, taking in churches, museums, small towns, cities and lush landscapes. The expert lecturer was exceptional in her knowledge, passion and ability to communicate on a wide range of subjects, from medieval sculpture to baroque architecture, taking in the complexities of German history on the way. Hotel, meals and tour management were exemplary.

APA are specialists in art and architectural history and employ expert scholars as lecturers. They are also committed to finding good hotels and restaurants - every trip I've been on has been thrilling. They're as good as their competitors in this specialist field and often better. Theirs is the brochure I look at first!

Art appreciation at its most interesting and informative

This was a 5 day visit to Urbino and surrounding towns to look at the art works promoted by the Montefeltro and Malatesta families. It was led by a well-known expert in the subject who was able to impart information with a light touch throughout the duration of the tour.

Frascati and the Roman Hills by Swahili, 3 May 2017
Holiday Rating:

Fras17 a week exploring art and gardens in the hills around Frascati and Rome.

Fras17 an excellent itinerary exploring art in the medieval towns, villas and gardens in the hills around Frascati and Rome. Not on the main tourist trail so the venues were all quiet and we were the only people in the gardens. The tour and visits are led by experts both from Art Pursuits and local, giving access on occasion to areas not open to the public. And inspirational holiday full of wonderful sites and sights.

Bruges and Ghent by Nell, 27 Apr 2017
Holiday Rating:

Stimulating and informative trip encompassing a range of visits bringing medieval Bruges and it's culture to life.

Range of visits in Bruges and Ghent encompassing a variety of buildings and museums. Good hotel, very well situated with friendly helpful staff. Timings of the visits worked well and the tour manager and tour leader did their utmost to ensure we had good access to the piece of art being studied. Background detail in terms of historical information provided a sense of continuity to the tour.

Highly professional in all respects. The UK based staff were friendly and helpful, the tour leader and tour manager were excellent, both in terms of conveying information but also in ensuring that all members of the group were looked after. Travel arrangements were well planned and everyone was well informed on the day's itinerary and timings in advance.
